Royal Sonesta, New Orleans, LAPosted Dec 18, 2014
Pros: This hotel is refined and the people are wonderful.
Cons: A large building program is in progress but will be wonderful when finished.
Location: Straight across the street from my room was the Musical Legends Park. We had breakfast at The Sonesta; had dinner at Armaud's, and Hotel Monteleone.
The Sonesta is in the middle of the action, but a close walk to the best restaurants. We walked Royal Street to Jackson Square and back along the River Walk. We had a wonderful time and loved the Christmas décor at the hotel. We took a city tour and took a taxi to spend an afternoon at the World War II museum.

Not terrible, but not 4 StarPosted Dec 16, 2014
Pros: The location is good, pretty much in prime area of Bourbon Street. Revolution is overpriced & over-rated, but food was good, service OK.
Cons: Put in a coffee pot in the rooms, fix the room key system, wash the windows. Oyster Bar was closed for renovation, but I did not see anyone working it
Location: Location is good, lots of places to eat and drink, but bring a nose plug. The smell of sewer is prevalent, NOLA needs to do something about that!!!!!!
We just returned yesterday from our 4 day stay at the Royal Sonesta. When we arrived, the lobby was decorated for Christmas with class. Very impressive, however........(Please note, our group had 2 rooms) 1-Went to use our electronic keys after we got up to both our room on the 4th Floor and the keys did not work. Luckily there was a security person available and he let us in. Note: this happened twice to both rooms in 4 days. Just a small irritation. 2-When we looked at our room, it was clean, until we opened our curtains and looked out the windows. Windows have not been washed in a really long time, it was on the outside and pretty gross (Room 4288) 3-The TV would work and then cutout, this happened constantly, making it very hard to watch any TV show. 4-The toilet was so loud, that if you got up and used it at night, you did not want to flush it. It would wake up anyone else in the room. 5-The other couple we went with, had to go down to the front desk on two different days and ask to have their room cleaned, and 1 other time to request towels. 6-Water pressure was very poor 7-Usually most hotel rooms have a coffee pot in the room or at least complimentary coffee in the lobby. (not here) 8-Elevators were slow and I only found one set to use (bank of 2) I decided to get brave and use the stairs, but every time I used them, I ended up in the service areas of the hotel.

King bed vs what we receivedPosted Dec 16, 2014
I upgraded and paid for a king size bed. When we arrived at the hotel we were given a double bed room and told we can move tomorrw into a king room. Ok they did move us. Then one day we left our room around 10 am came back just before dinner yo find our room had not been cleaned. We went to to front dedk and asked that our room be cleaned. We went to dinner came back and our room still was not cleaned so we called the front desk again. They came within 15 min. We also lost perscription sunglasses during the move. We asked if any they had been found. All in all we like the hotel.

Bring your earplugsPosted Dec 15, 2014
Pros: Friendly staff and the holiday decorations in the lobby were very beautiful. Convenient parking under the hotel ($45/night).
Cons: We could hear the elevator chime every time it landed on our floor. Sounds from neighboring rooms were also a problem.
Location: Lots of opportunity to drink to excess and vomit in the street. Easy walking distance to French Quarter and business district attractions.
If you're interested in getting some sleep while in New Orleans, this is not the hotel for you. If you've never been to New Orleans, you may be attracted by the Bourbon Street address. Don't fall for the ploy. There are much better hotels in the Quarter with better locations. Although clean and with nice room amenities (soaps, robes, etc.), the hotel is nothing special. Our 5th floor room was small with a tiny window that was 6 feet off the floor. You couldn't see anything but the sky. I'm sure there are better rooms, but as I have experienced in the past, Expedia customers with discounted rooms are often downgraded to the worst rooms in the hotel. Every noise from the hallway, neighboring rooms and the street was audible in the room. Without earplugs, sleeping would have been impossible. Having previously experienced the drunken excess that the French Quarter exudes on a Saturday night, we ventured to the warehouse district for a fantastic dinner at Cochon. It was a nice walk from hotel on a perfect December night.

Location but....Posted Dec 15, 2014
Location is great and staff are nice. The hotel is not priced right for the room conditions. I feel it is overpriced for that reason.

Expected More for The PricePosted Dec 15, 2014
Dowdy décor. Embarrassing workout room. Low water pressure. Small closet. No minibar key provided at check-in. Bar closed at odd hours. Renovations going on though, of course, not disclosed until you get there. Whole place needs a major overhaul. Will not stay there again or recommend it.
