“Love Staying Here...”
My wife and I return to the W French Quarter whenever we are in New Orleans. Our favorite parts of the hotel are the location (on Chartres near Bienville), which makes walking to all the places we like in the French Quarter really easy, the peaceful courtyard, and the very nice and accommodating staff. The restaurant is under renovation until late this year (2011) which was disappointing but they are renovating the hotel and it will be much better than it was. The rooms are comfy and the mattresses are wonderful -- typical for Starwood hotels but nonetheless wonderful. The room is nicely appointed and has a nice TV and DVD player. The windows open and have shutters so you can enjoy the outside weather when it is nice. The things I don't like about the W are more or less minor. There is not much insulation in the walls so you can hear others pretty well and the doors slam very loudly. They have fixed the insulation problem on the 2nd and 5th floors and it is better, but naturally we were on 4. That is supposed to be done within the next year. Also, there is no closet, only a sort of small piece of furniture that isn't nearly wide enough, and very little drawer space. Not that it doesn't work, but it could be better. Also, the WiFi in the room is ridiculously expensive and is PER DEVICE. If you have a laptop and a Kindle you'll pay for both. The front desk removed one of the charges however, so ask. But IMHO the price they charge for Wireless is way out of line.
“Funky hotel”
nice place, good location, great service
“Location,Loacation,Loaction”
Great location for a hotel,French Quarter. Walking distance to everything. The front desk and hotel employees were wonderful. Thank you W. MMH
“Excellent Location & Design”
The location is excellent, the only issue I had was a noisy A/C sound that was coming from the Bathroom (even after I turn on the A/C in the room) I hear it even with my ear plug.
“OK, if you splurge for room with balcony”
Rooms are ok: comfortable, small, a little shabby, although I understand they are in the midst of re-doing all rooms. The courtyard is really pretty, small, but looks like a fun place to hang-out with friends. I had really wanted a room that opened onto a balcony or into the courtyard. I called the hotel number before booking, and was sent to the corporate call center. They could not tell me which rooms had balconies, so I went ahead and booked and hoped for the best. At check-in, I was told only spectacular rooms open up. For the price, room was just so-so. And parking was outrageous! Not that parking is cheap in N.O., but I have stayed at hotels close by and paid less than half of what the W charged.
“"High Hopes - fell short"”
While the location was amazing and the hotel was great - service was very poor for a W. They barely cleaned the rooms during our 3 day stay. They also promise "extraordinary" service but we had to call 5x for one thing :( Still a fan of the W - just NOT this one in New Orleans.
“W French Quarter - Gem”
I'd recommend the W French quarter - good location on the edge of the Quarter. Not as loud as staying right on Bourbon St but stumbling distance to it and surrounding attractions. Still can be a bit loud on weekend nights, depending on which way your window faces. Quaint old brick couryard with lounge area & smallish pool. Typical hip W rooms, if in need of a little updating. Not sure if they have room service but there's a Brennan-family restaurant attached which will provide you with fine dining. I'd happily stay at this property again, over the larger chain hotels on Canal St.
“Not up to W standards...”
While the hotel was comfortable and the staff very friendly... it is not up to par with what is expected of a W Hotel.
“Will never go back!”
They put us in room 215. In less than 2 minutes of being in the room we knew there was a problem. The noise from the elavator was well beyond acceptable. As I left the room I ran into the bellman who was aware of the problem. The hotel was full. The person working the front was nice enough to offer us ear plugs. The noise was so bad we ended up checking out 2 am in the morning. The person working the front desk when we checked out said he told the management the room needed to be sound proofed. It is inexcusable to check guest into a room knowing there is such a prolbem.
“disappointed”
I was attacted to the W French Quarter because of its four-star rating and its location in the heart of the French Quarter. The location is good, I'll give it that, but the quality of the hotel is lacking. The front office folks were very friendly and accomodating, but the rest fo the hotel was not up to par in my eyes. My biggest complaint was the size of the room and the bathroom. But I will say that my fellow traveler had a very spacious room. So the bottom line is that room size varies significantly in this hotel. My main compliant dealt with cleanlines and attention to detail. Upon check-in, the bellman and I discovered food in the mini-frig left by the previous person. The bellman gave me a split of Veuve from the mini-frig in an attempt to make up for that oversight by the cleaning people. There was a tray of snacks on the end table (that functioned as the mini-bar). They looked like they had been there for quite a while - covered with a scum of some sort. The bathroom never felt quite clean to me. My soap dish was not cleaned from day to day. I know not to expect clean sheets everyday, but I would expect clean pillow cases if there was evidence of my eye makeup on them. I don't think I'll go back.
