Used to be a much better hotel

Posted Oct 16, 2014
I have had a few good stays in prior years at 70 park, and many good experiences at other Kimpton properties, but this room was a disaster. First, the closet doors were cheap steel bifold doors and would not properly open and close. They could be yanked and would open about halfway with a screeching metal-on-metal sound. Not what I expect from a nice park avenue hotel. Second, the television was mounted on a wall parallel to the bed (on a fixed mount) and could only be seen from the desk. In general, the room looked like it hadn't been updated for 20 years. Another minor quibble: they don't allow prepaid rooms to participate in the Kimpton frequent stay program. To be clear, the rooms I have had in the past at 70 park were better. But, why take a risk at another crappy experience when there are so many other good hotels in midtown?

Great location near Grand Central Station

Posted Oct 16, 2014
We stayed at 70 Park for one night on a recent trip to NYC. Our first. The rooms are small compared to most hotels wed use but understandable for NYC. The hotel is in a great location. We found the staff to be excellent and the hotel ewes spotless throughout. We will definitely use again on our next visit to Manhattan.

A decent hotel near grand central.

The bathroom does not have a door. There is a slidding pain of wood but it does nothing to add to privacy.

Nice midtown hotel

Posted Oct 14, 2014
Pros: Location. Service. Friendly, helpful staff. Price.
Cons: Hotel is ready for some updates... new robes, carpet, etc.
Location: Near Grand Central Station. Easy walk to shopping on 5th Avenue. A nice easy 20 minute walk to the theater district. Plenty of restaurants nearby.
We stayed here for a mother/daughter weekend. This was a nice hotel for a value price. The hotel staff were very helpful and pleasant. Excellent mid-town location. Comfy bed. The hotel is a bit dated - but was neat and clean.

Boutique hotel away from the hustle and bustle

Quiey, quaint neighborhood. Would stay here again. Close enough to walk to Times Square, but far enough away to get some peace and quiet.

It's all about the location

Posted Oct 6, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Fix the things that are worn and tatty
Location: Close to Grand Central and an easy walk to Times Square, Rockefeller Centre, Empire State Building and other midtown attractions
Overall, the hotel is in a fabulous location and, with a bit of work, could be top notch. It is in need of some TLC in places but the staff are fantastic and they make the most of what they've got. I guess that's what makes it more frustrating that the simple things aren't sorted, as the staff obviously care. I had emailed ahead to let the hotel know we were celebrating a couple of different things and they kindly provided cocktail vouchers, a bottle of wine and mini cupcakes in our room along with a couple of cards. This was a really nice touch and seems to be typically Kimpton style. Our room was on the 16th floor with a good view of Park Avenue and Grand Central to the left. The windows were sash style which happily opened. This did however mean that we could hear some street noise but nothing too bad after about midnight. The room had two queen beds which were very comfy, a desk and chair plus an armchair. There were no drawers to store smaller items although there was a wardrobe and safe. The iHome system is also a bonus. Some items in the room definitely needed replacing as they were worn - the blinds for example were a bit tatty. The bathroom was very small but was perfectly adequate. Plenty of towels and toiletries were provided. All the staff we encountered were smiling, happy and friendly. The water provided in the lobby is welcome and free tea and coffee is available before 11.30. Join the Kimpton rewards programme for free wifi and minibar credit.

KMO, It was wonderful to read your comments on our star staff! We certainly pride ourselves on their stellar service and were glad it was apparent to you! We appreciate your insights and apologize for the inconveniences experienced in regards to the room condition. This is not typical of 70 park nor Kimpton and I will address these concerns with our executive committee. We love to provide exceptional stays and spoil our guests with a little something extra, especially when there is a special milestone to celebrate! I am glad you enjoyed your amenities and the issues did not spoil your overall experience. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Kindest, Bill B, General Manager

Not for families

Posted Oct 5, 2014
The hotel was very nice. The staff was amazing. Would absolutely recommend to people without children. I was there with another adult and 2 kids. The rooms are very tight. Not really enough room for a stroller and pack n play. I would def stay again without my kids.

Kristen, thank you for your comments regarding your stay. Space is a commodity in NYC and I do understand the hotel is not a great fit for everyone. However, it is pleasing to hear that you would return under different circumstances. We would love to have you! Warm Regards, Bill B, General Manager

Nice hotel. Quiet in spite of the city noise.

Posted Oct 2, 2014
Pros: Staff, location
Cons: A regular door on the bathroom rather than a sliding door.
Location: Convenient location.
Staff very nice and helpful. Room had no view but was very quiet which was nice for sleeping. No traffic noise!! Room a bit small but adequate for short stay.

Our staff is appreciative to hear of your enjoyable stay! Yes, generally in NYC, there is a choice of either interior & quiet (no view) or exterior facing the street with traffic (a view). I am glad the noise level worked out well. We hope to see you again. Best, Bill B, General Manager

Nice hotel for the price and location. Right on park avenue. Free hot coffee daily from the downstairs coffee shop.
