“awesome location and comfortable and very affortable...”

“Good place to stay a week while working in NYC”
When you're vacationing, you don't spend much time in the room. When working, however, you spend a good chunk of the evening and night in the room. For most Manhattan hotels you either pay a ridiculous amount or you're sitting in something the size of your coat closet. The Affinia Shelbourne has comfortable rooms, furnishings, and baths. It's a pretty good place when on-the-road in NYC.
“Terrible plumbing and service”
Here is the biggest problem I had, I checked in and had very little time to do anything but leave my bags in room and brush my teeth. I turned on the water and it came out brown in the sink. I had to wait a few minutes for the water to run out the brown color but also the water faucet was flawed and water came out with very low pressure and what pressure there was came out in all directions and soaked everything on the sink shelf including my suit and tie. I did not have time to change rooms as I needed to get to a meeting and got back 11PM and did not feel like re-packing the room. In the AM, same problem with brown sink water but worst of all, I tried to shower and the water came out brown for a few minutes and it also had almost no water pressure. Further, to get to hot the knob had to be turned to all the way to hot and then it would get too hot and only cooled when you turned it all the way to cold. It took me about 10 minutes to simply shower as the pressure and problems were ridiculous. In addition, the toilet water was rust colored which is a further turn off. All in all not satisfying and a poor experience that will be memorable. The worst part was when I went to check out the front desk person (male 7:30AM Wednesday November 30) asked how my stay was and when I told him of the problems he simply said he would have someone look into it. That did not do me much good and I would have expected some sort of better response.
“Smart choice”
Well situated, friendly and courteous staff.
“Amazing time...great customer service!”
We just got back from our Thanksgiving weekend in NYC. The Affinia Hotel was a great location and they had great customer service! The hotel was clean and a good size room for New York! we had a great time!
“Near Perfect”
My favorite NY hotel. Close to great shopping. Can get to Times square fairly easily but far enough away to avoid those crowds.
“love this htel”
been under remodel in past 16 floors. Rooms are giant to me, having stayed in some other NYC 'closets, so to speak. Beautiful large bed with very comfortable think mattress and duvet.Thermostat in room! Two(!) window covers, one a shade and one a sequential layered shade'. Both on chains to pull. open. Great lobby with confortable high back chair. There were also couches. Very competent Concierge right there in lobby standing at desk. Questions answered and/or tickets, reservations set up right on the spot. Some Chairs need to be reupholstered, imo but it might be a look. Desk staff great and efficient and quick. Super doormen make the outside sing and .keep the cars moving and offer genuine help.Truly an asset. Therestaurant RARE is a local attraction and offers agood value anddelicious food. Murray Hill is a neighborhood, with rest and cleanrer and pharrmacy and a great selection of restaurants. Room was perfect condition. I reqally likethe shelburne and would go back. Also the guets are youthful and having a good-time which makes the whole atmosphere cheerful. The Chrysler Bldt towers over the area, and the Empire St Bldg is also.near... There is construction starting nearby but is not part of the hotel.
“Affinia”
Hotel was nice, staff was friendly and it was located close enough to what most travel to NYC to see but was far enough away to avoid the crazed hustle that is times square area. Only complaint was noise from the hallway would carry but overall for Manhattan this hotel was above most, would definitely stay here again for the price/service/quality.
“Loved it”
We arrived very late on a Saturday, and they gave us an awful one bedroom suite, but upon request, they changed us to another much better. It was bigger and very clean. The hotel restaurant "Rare" delivers the best hamburguers in town and has a very good room service. We ended up having a very nice stay at the Shelbourne Affinia hotel. Great location.
“Affinia Shelburne”
The hotel was lovely, the staff friendly, and I will definitely stay again. Two minor points: On check-in, when I opened the door to my room, the previous guest's luggage was still there. Bell service had not picked it up. Further, approximately 2230, we were awakened from jet-lagged sleep by hotel staff. A guest had left passport and papers in the safe, and they needed to retrieve them. We were told staff had tried to contact us, and it looked like there was a message on the room phone, which was difficult to retrieve. When I asked why they hadnt called my mobile earlier instead of the room, they said they didnt have the number, which I thought had been part of my reservation.
