Worse hotel for vacation

Posted Sep 29, 2014
Location: There were some construction project in the area making it even less inviting.
I was sold on this hotel for being a 4-star hotel. Instead, staying there felt more like staying at a motel: no lobby per se; badly decorated; the room was not very well designed and not very well decorated either; the corridors were too tiny and not very inviting; no real closet to hang my clothes. I was so disappointed that I didn't bother to find out if the hotel had a pool area.

Over priced, underwhelming.

Posted Sep 23, 2014
Pros: Bed was fine. Nice shower head. Free coffee, which wasn't bad.
Cons: Service. Attention to detail. Eliminate the automatic charge to the credit card for damages and incidentals. A real bar and restaurant.
As someone who has traveled to NYC for business and pleasure for 30+ years, I know NY hotels are expensive and small. I've been a fan of ALoft in other cites. Nice suites and reasonable rates. The Brooklyn Aloft however managed to find that sweet spot of indifferent service, underwhelming amenities and high costs. The lack of a restaurant on premises, a lobby that resembled a 7Eleven, a "bar" that consisted of 5 stools in said 7Eleven lobby. Even little touches like construction blankets on all three of the elevators' walls added to the sense that the cliental (we guests) were not particularly appreciated. We were informed when we checked in that even though the hotel charges was fully pre-paid, my credit card would be charged $100 for "incidentals" and the charges would be reversed "within a week" once they determine there were no fees incurred or "damages to the room". I've never, anywhere in the world been charged for possible damage to a room. When, upon check out I requested a printed summary of charges, I was told, "the printer is acting up" and they would not be able to accommodate what should be an automatic service. So, yeah, a very unsatisfactory experience.

Great hotel in Brooklyn with great subway coverage

Posted Sep 3, 2014
Pros: Cleanliness and close proximity to various subway lines.
Cons: Airport transfer service could be cheaper and hotel should have a water dispenser to refill reusable water bottles.
Location: Close to subway lines that take you quickly to lower Manhattan. A few subways stations south you find great restaurants.
We stayed for 3 nights over the labour day weekend to explore and enjoy NYC. The hotel was a great choice since it is modern, clean, and had everything we expected. The hotel is close to several subway lines, which makes it very easy to get to locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Being able to use the subway a lot really helps to enjoy NYC so factor this in as a huge plus for this hotel. The staff was very nice and helpful and we can't complain about anything. The hotel has a nice bar and offers entertainment on the weekend. From other recommendations we heard that the rooftop and lobby can get loud so we choose a room in the middle of the hotel (12th floor). We experienced no noise from the events in the hotel. Be aware that there is a construction site nearby, which could potentially be loud; due to the long weekend there was no noise and activity on the site. To be safe consider packing some earplugs (helps me to have the AC on and not be bothered by that noise).

Brooklyn Stay

Posted Sep 3, 2014
Pros: Fast elevators, nice front desk staff, modern room, close to public transportation. The bathroom was amazing!
Cons: Improve the air conditioner in room, clean the room a little more, and remove the body wash/shampoo containers, the bathroom door doesn't close.
Location: Close to transportation and shopping.
The hotel was extremely close to the train stop but unfortunately was close to a lot of construction. The room was on the smaller side but very modern. The air didn't work too well but it was okay for a summer night in Brooklyn. I don't like the idea that the shampoo and body wash are in a container that anyone can tamper with. It seems kind of unsanitary and gross. There was also a stain on the bed.

Short stay

Posted Sep 2, 2014
Pros: The location and secured flooring.
Cons: Lounge area and front desk area seems a little crowded.
Location: Everything is there including the Barclay arena.
Originally from Brooklyn and wanted to be in an ideal location .. Shopping, transportation, restaurants and a short trip to the city. Hotel has everything you would need and with a decent view. I enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend this hotel and make another visit if the price is right.

Brooklyn Wedding Stay

Posted Aug 26, 2014
Pros: Design of room - bathroom was outstanding.
Hotel Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating (especially Trisha). For example, they allowed us to get into our room early -- which was a godsend. As a result we are looking forward to staying at other Aloft Hotels.

Convienent to the City without in-city prices

Posted Aug 25, 2014
Pros: Price and service were fantastic for NYC. Convenient to the city / Brooklyn and Queens via UBER or cab.
Cons: The room service / hotel restaurant where truly awful. It's retail front is a restaurant by the name of Jose' O'Sheas (Irish/Mexican fusion?) AVOID.
Location: Be sure to have breakfast and or a late night desert just down the street at Historic 'Juniors' diner. It's a 3 block walk and well worth it !
Great modern hotel with excellent amenities. The block is under construction which detracted from our stay. Rooms were large ( for NYC ) and comfortable. Gym was nice and full featured.
