Bowery grand.

The walls are paper thin. You can hear people breathing in the next room. Only stay here if it is all you can afford.

Pretty good for this type of hotel

Posted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: Clean, well organized.
Cons: Bigger beds, a bit more space.
Location: Soho, Chinatown and Little Italy nearby.
New York hotel rates are astronomical, especially anywhere reasonably central. The cheapest options are hostels where one normally stays in a dormitory, but these have the disadvantage of not having much security. The next step up is a place like the Grand Hotel where one basically has a tiny room, about the size of a cupboard - just enough to fit a bed and squeeze in one's luggage. Bathrooms are communal. Compared to other such hotels I have stayed in, this was one of the better: it was pretty clean and the shared bathrooms were "individual" rather than "communal" (like a locker room). It also had good wifi. Some important things to note. I am 6'1"(185 cm). The bed only just fit me. Also, important for those of limited mobility, there is a flight of stairs to climb to get into the hotel.

Good Location

Posted Aug 15, 2014
Pros: Wi-Fi and location relevant to food and transportation
Fine place to sleep when you plan on spending all your time out and about. Not a place to stay at if you plan on spending much time in the room itself.

Just Scary

Posted Aug 8, 2014
Pros: The staff was respectful.
Cons: Cleanliness, it smells like cigarettes all the time.
Location: It's located in Chinatown. Close to NYU.
It was scary to stay here. The area is very sketchy and even inside the hotel I didn't feel safe. I'm glad I only stayed one night.

Decent cheap hotel

Tiny rooms (touched all four walls at the same time) very basic but as can be expected for a cheap hotel in NYC. Would stay here again

Pros: Nothing
Cons: You'd have to tear it down and start all over.

Very bare bones but convenient

Posted Jul 22, 2014
Pros: location
Cons: very noisy
Location: Chinatown and Little Italy are right there - great food.
When I paid so little for a two-night stay, I didn't expect much. The single room was small, about 6 ft by 4 ft., no window, and I could hear every noise. The shared bathrooms got pretty dirty at times, but the staff did their best to keep up with cleaning. The good news was it was close to Chinatown and Little Italy, and the New York subway system. I wouldn't stay there for more than two nights but it suited my needs and budget.
