No crown for this hotel

I thought staying at a Crown Plaza over a Holiday Inn for same price was a no brainer! I was disappointed from the very beginning by the long wait for a hotel shuttle. Took almost an hour, later found out they only run every half-hour. The Holiday Inn had at least five shuttles in the time I waited for the CP shuttle. That started my less than stellar experience. Probable would have given it 3 stars or more had the shuttle been more available. First impressions count!

Pros: staff, shuttle driver (all South American) most personnel from NJ are
Cons: The screen TV guide is old school but no big deal. Someone needs to tell citizens of NJ that black & dark gray aren't the only color of clothes.
Location: There was a bar (100 yards left) with pretty good food & liquor store within walking distance, I saw lots of gangster houses near by.
The desk people were the best, I watch a lot of TV and expected Tony Sopranos fat sister but the employees were great, especially a young man at the desk name Thiago and the shuttle driver. Thank You for the "extra mile" "exceeding expectations" etc etc, your staff did them all.

Great value for the money!

I've stayed at this hotel at least 10+ times over the past 5 years. And I've never had a major issue and any minor issues are typically resolved in 15min or less. It's a great value for the money & the Lobby sports bar next door isn't bad either.

Location location parking parking -- great package

Once we actually found the Crowne Plaza, it turned out to be a great convenience and excellent value. Getting to the Crowne Plaza by car from the nJ turnpike is not for the faint of heart. It is on the opposite side of the Newark Airport and evidently can be accessed only by exiting on exit 13A. There seems no other way to get there. Directions said to get onto NJ 81 north. But after leaving toll booth, there were no signs indicating 81N. Head slightly to the left. At the macdonalds make a right. After arriving at hotel, everything falls into place. EZ parking is in the same parking area and costs $7/day if prereserved on line. Hotel is the standard very acceptable but not fancy Crowne plaza. Restaurant was not great cuisine but was fine for a meal before turning in. Vans to airport go every half hour -- quick ride. Pick up upon return was easy. If you are driving to Newark for early am flight , this is a great solution.
