“Great location”
Mostly positives. Only negatives would be that there was a pinging noise intermittently coming from the ac unit during the night and room service (which we did not order) woke us up at 7:00 am and it wasn't for us! We intended to sleep late! Comfy beds, great location, great lobby, nice staff, close to delis and subway.
“Nice Hotel In a Great Location”
I stayed in a standard room at the Empire, facing back into the mechanical zone, so nothing fancy. It was a typical Manhattan hotel room, meaning small. As in, you have to close the bathroom door to physically use the toilet. Plus, it had one of those half-closed showers with a modern wand - the ones that make you want to scream "Would you PLEASE just put a door on this thing?" Sure, they save water, but they're annoying. And the cell phone broadband is marginal on the backside, or you pay for their wireless. And the safe (which is free and otherwise nice) won't hold a 17-inch laptop. But other than those things, it was great. Nice furnishings, courteous housekeeping staff who don't barge in and respect your privacy, very attentive but never annoying doormen, and a nice lobby to meet folks. The location is fabulous, with a Starbucks and a great but casual pub/grille right next door. The price is good, and when it's all worked in with a nice air fare, it seemed like it was almost free. Would I stay there again? Absolutely.
“Even by New York standards....”
...these rooms are tiny! Yes, I'm well aware that I'm in NYC and that's how the rooms are. That said, The Empire takes that to a whole new level. And I honestly don't see how a guy at 6' or over could come close to using the toilet! The location is great and the hotel staff were very friendly. However, I simply could not recommend this hotel based on the ridiculous room size. Buyer Beware!
“AC/fan didn't work on non-continuous setting”
Pro: great location near central park trendy/hip hotel exterior option to use shower or "hand shower" Con: AC didn't work well (was very hot in room without choosing continuous fan) specific room was loud due to fans outside front desk said hotel was fully booked & ran out of toothpaste/brush/floss (& told to go to Duane Reade next door) no shower door or curtain (& this is by design, I think...) unclear if dead bolt worked Overall dissatisfied since had cold before coming and felt much more sick afterwards. Next night was at a different hotel and got far better sleep (with AC working & far less noise).
“VERY noisy”
Room was a bit small and extremely noisy…
“Poor Customer Service!”
I was very disappointed with the quality of this hotel. There were a few reasons why, which I will outline. 1. There was a domestic violence beating in a room on my floor and in the hallway of my floor. At 7:45am there was a woman banging on our door and other rooms saying she was being beaten and had blood on her face. When I called down to the front desk to alert them, they assured me she was ok. I asked if the rest of us were safe, they did not seem to care about our safety or apologize. They just said that the woman was alright with blood on her face and that whomever beat her was loose in the hotel. 2 I also asked for a non-smoking room and floor. I asked to verify if indeed our room and floor was and they assured us it was. I then told them that someone was smoking marijuana on our floor, and our room stunk. They did not apologize, just said they would alert the manager. 3. Our room was 2+ hours overdue when it was supposed to be ready for the 3pm check-in. 4. The shower and bathroom were dirty. When taking a shower, the shower filled up with water and brown mildew started to float around, lovely! 5. There is a Dance Club in the hotel! There was a line for people to enter the club with a bouncer. Which we did not know about, it made it difficult to get in and they did not seem to know who was a hotel guest or who was going to the club. 6. The check-in and concierge was not friendly. They acted as though the hotel guests were a burden.
“Empire doesn't care about you”
The front desk is the worst thing about this hotel. They were unhelpful and curt. I had a problem with my room and no one was willing or available to help. In addition, there was an odd sewage smell in my bathroom.
“A gem”
A nice location for this hip, eclectic hotel; room is NYC sized but very comfortable beds and appointments. Awesome location and neighborhood; plenty of restaurants within a short walk. Central Park two blocks for the morning run. I'd recommend it for those that like something other than a typical chain cookie cutter.
“Will return!”
We loved this hotel! The room was a good size for a NYC hotel. The bathroom was TINY and the shower door situation was kinda weird. There is a night club on the roof which makes a stay on the 11th floor kinda loud. Other than that, we had a great experience. Location makes it worth the noise.
“If you want trendy...”
Overall, the hotel was great. I loved the location. The bathroom is entirely too small but the room was a good size. The room svs/coffee in the a.m. was fantastic! Everyone friendly and helpful. I would go back!
