“Eh.....”

Would not recommend this hotel...no hot water in the morning, no mini bar, slow elevator and the $17 breakfast was not very good. On the positive side, the bed was very comfortable and the furnishings were nice.

“Cheap but poor manteinance.”

First room. Heating broken. Change. Second room : hairdryer broken (not a big deal) but heating apparently working . But in the middle of the second night... Heating broke back again ! Perhaps I was just out of luck, but maintenance seemed poor to me. Service, cleaning, and location reasonable. The best thing is the price. But do not expect much from this hotel.

“Can't wait to go back”

Always a wonderful time at the Excelsior Hotel. The hotel has been tastefully redone and the rooms are clean and spacious. The location is fantastic, right off the park, with great shopping and dining. Love this hotel!!

“We enjoyed our stay. Comfy beds, great location, friendly staff!”

We were surprisely upgraded after a VERY late arrival. The room was always cleaned after our return each day. The a/c didn't run at night cause of the boiler, so it was always too warm at night. Beds were comfy, restrooms clean and hotel quiet despite the full hotel. The only downer was that the lift broke the day after Thanksgiving, but we were able to get by using the service elavator. The staff was friendly; especially the cleaning lady. We would definitely consider going back!

Area recommendations

The Upper West Side, since it is not too far from NYC and all the sites. The hotel is convenient by taxi or subway. There is a subway station just around the corner from the hotel. The Natural History Museum right across the street and Central Park around the corner, plenty of places to eat with a variety. This is a great place for couple or families with young children.
