Nice hotel - quiet area close to subway

Posted Sep 12, 2014
Pros: The beds were very comfortable and the room spacious. The hotel is "old fashioned" in a good way.
Cons: A fridge & tea & coffee making facilities would be really welcome - perhaps instead of 2 tvs! S/caps in b/room to accompany the complimentary soaps.
Location: Central Park is very close by- beautiful place. Good access to tourist spots from the nearby subway
We had a wonderful week in New York. The hotel was away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Manhattan which was easily reached by the nearby subway. There was no view at all from bedroom window just another building - you had to crane your neck under the blinds to see the small patch of sky. Only one out of the three reception staff we approached for information was helpful and could answer our questions - the other two didn't seem to be very interested nor knowledgable about tourist information.

Good locality

Posted Sep 11, 2014
The guy on the desk was rude and not very helpful at all. He used the remark I don't get paid enough to know that when asked about a nice place to eat. His attitude was poor. Everyone else was much more approachable.

Quiet but in the heart of things

Posted Sep 11, 2014
This is our second stay at this hotel. We love the location - so close to the American Museum of Natural History, Central Park, good restaurants and the subway. The hotel is in a more residential area, so is fairly quiet - we slept well each night of our stay. The rooms were very clean, good-sized and well-equipped. The hotel's breakfast buffet has a good selection of food and beverage and is reasonably priced. Staff was consistently friendly and helpful.

Nice clean comfortable Hotel.

Posted Sep 10, 2014
Pros: The room, a deluxe double, was clean and quite comfortable for three adults. The staff was friendly and the elevators were prompt.
Cons: The Hotel could have a gift shop or a place to buy a few essentials.
Location: The Hotel is located beside Central Park and the Museum of Natural History. It is a short cab ride to Midtown shopping and the theatre district.
We had a good experience. Staying in the Upper West Side of Manhattan was less conjested and more relaxing then staying in Midtown or Downtown. We did not arrive in New York or leave New York during rush hour so access to Laguardia airport was quite easy.

location, location

Posted Sep 2, 2014
Pros: Liked location most of all . Not only well situated with regard to sites, but also for my visit to relative.
Cons: Would be nice to have coffee service in room. However, nice that Starbucks and other coffee shops within half a block.
Location: Nearby Central Park, Met., NY Historical Society, Natural History Museum and Guggenheim. Many reasonably priced eateries nearby.
Nice clean modern room well situated for access to subway, walking distance to Met, NY Historical Society, Natural History Museum and Hudson River and Guggenheim. Also many coffee shops, restaurants, pharmacy etc, within walking distance. Nice neighborhood with less crowds and noise than Time Square area. Helpful staff.

nice place: location, comfort, pleasant staff

Posted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: location
Cons: room accommodations: fridge, coffeemaker needed
Location: Central park , Roosevelt park and Museum ; Natural history and Metropolitan Museums , small cafe's , Shake Shack (to eat in )
we arrived to the hotel mid-week, easy to find location, Manhattan, close to Museum of Natural History : it was not busy , check in staff was nice, accommodating , our bags went in to the room right away ,.. no trouble , no worries for us ... ; Room was nice, had a little "living room" sitting area with sofa, desk and coffee table, closet and then our bedroom was in the next room : had 2 chairs , small table, plenty of room for our 5 y/o to play around ; 2 TV's, on e in each room , enough room for clothes, other items, the only one thing I missed it was a fridge, there wasn't one in our room; Overall rooms were nice, clean , enough for family of 3; Bathroom was also clean , everything we needed was there (just need tooth brush and paste);; Hotel is close to Subway and Roosevelt park , also to Museum of Natural History and Metropolitan Museum , Central park west, Shake Shack , etc ..;; I loved everything about the Hotel itself and area around it .. will plan to go there again soon ....and price was also right , great place to stay whether its 1 night or 6

Nice hotel with lots to do

Posted Aug 18, 2014
Pros: It was very clean and well decorated. The staff was helpful and the price was fair.
Cons: Nothing
The Columbus Ave corridor is a great place to visit. Although we did spend time in lower Manhattan there was plenty to do walking distance from the Excelsior--great restaurants, a park, flee market and outdoor market.
