Wonderful location close to Museums & Central ParkPosted Oct 14, 2014
Pros: It's location
Cons: The lifts and having an electric kettle in the room.
Location: Great restaurants in Columbus Avenue. Central Prk, Museums and a nearby subway station.
We enjoyed our stay wonderful location. Comfortable bed, clean rooms. The bar and restaurant adjoining the lobby is great and gives a good vibe. The lifts let the hotel down and their slow service was commented on by other guests. Would stay there again and would certainly recommend it. It would be a great addition to have an electric kettle to make a cup of Tea!

Great hotel near Central Park.Posted Oct 13, 2014
Pros: Location. Normally, NYC is noisy, but it was pretty quiet at night.
Cons: Perhaps coffee maker should be in the room.
Location: The hotel was close to subway, bus stop, many good restaurants, Central Park, and museum of Natural History.
We arrived too early, but friendly staff welcomed us and checked us in to a very nice suite, which was spacious and bright with four windows. We had TVs in both bedroom and living room. Bathroom had lovely tiles and was very clean. Internet was free only on the first and the second floor. We did not have a fridge or kettle in our room, but we enjoyed eating out, so it was not an issue.

Beautiful location on edge of Central ParkPosted Oct 12, 2014
This is my second visit to New York and although this hotel is a couple of miles out of the centre on 81st street it is worth it. The area is full of small characteristic restaurants and near the edge of Central Park. It's a beautiful walk into downtown manhattan or right by a metro station if preferred. The hotel staff are friendly and the rooms are clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast was really reasonable. The bar/restaurant in the hotel was a bit of a let down for me as it was dark and loud and the menu did not suit my tastes. A quiet bar after a long day sightseeing/shopping would have been better but as there were local bars nearby it wasn't an issue but I feel a lack of opportunity for the hotel. I'd definitely stay here again as the traffic is a lot less heavy and the Constantine beeping of horns very much reduced!

Location Is PerfectPosted Oct 9, 2014
Pros: Location on UWS across from Roosevelt Park, right off Columbus. Perfect. Bus stop at end of street and across street. Excellent room and housekeeping.
Cons: Put coffee pot in all rooms. Give FREE WiFi. Both of these are deal breakers for me. NO point in being so stingy. Means one has to go OUT for b'fast.
Location: UWS perfection, Columbus on corner. Easy walk to Lincoln Ctr, Amer Folk Art Museum, across street NY Hist Society and Mus of Natural Hist. Food/drink.
Stay of 7 nights, October 2014. Seamless check in and out. Desk staff competent, not that friendly. Excellent room on 16th with sitting area. Clean facilities, not much view but usually too tired to care. Excellent bed and linens, wonderful housekeeping. On last day they kept bags for us as we hit street for one final half day. Lobby clean, a bit aging but some lovely architectural details.

Great experiencePosted Oct 9, 2014
Pros: Location, clean, and comfortable
Cons: More affordable breakfast option in hotel
Arrived mid-morning and hotel let us check in early w/ an upgrade to a larger room. Pleasant, helpful staff who answered questions/concerns. Room was clean and spacious, but w/ no view. Excellent location, w/ Central Park, Museum, and subway 1 block away. Very quiet inside/ outside the hotel. Coffee house close too!

We SpentThree Nights after Labor Day WeekendPosted Oct 7, 2014
Pros: Cleanliness and location and price
Cons: Coffee in the room and more convenient parking.
Location: The Natural History Museum is across the street and there are restaurants, coffee shops and bars all around.
We had never been to the Excelsior before but we will definitely make that our first choice next time we return to NYC's Upper West Side. The price per night made it a good value and the location was perfect. The room was comfortable with enough room to to walk around the bed, and we had a nice desk and a large bathroom. The vending coffee machine was out of order when we were there so we had to get coffee in the diningroom. We would have preferred the option of having coffee in the room, but that wasn't a big deal We didn't come to NY to sit in our room and drink coffee. The room was clean and the air was fresh, no musty or old stale cigarette odor. The staff was courteous and pleasant. We liked having a safe in the closet. You have to park at the Natural History Museum across the street and they aren't open 24/7 so if you have an early flight you'll have to park on the street. Overall, it was a great experience and a good value for the money.

The perfect location in UWSPosted Oct 6, 2014
Pros: The room was small but nicely appointed and very clean. The lobby had a nice old-world feel. And there were old-fashioned rotary phones everywhere!
Cons: No suggestions.
Location: It's just the perfect place to experience a New York neighborhood, very family-oriented and safe. Plus, the amazing Met is straight across the Park.
Imagine our delight -- a hotel half a block from Central Park, overlooking the Museum of Natural History, in a lovely old building with every modern convenience. It's such a warm and quiet neighborhood, full of dogs and children. And yet we could walk to the Lincoln Centre in 15 minutes.

Comfortable hotel in a quiet neighbourhood. Close to subway station on 81st street, a short walk to Central Park and Museum of Natural History. Reception staff very helpful when theatre tickets we were expecting didn't turn up until late. A great visit to New York, would recommend hotel to anyone.

Excellent location.Posted Oct 2, 2014
Clean, comfortable bed, smallish bathroom, very little space for toiletries, can't beat the location. Staff could be more approachable.
