Nice hotel with lots of character. The location of the hotel made our travel to Columbia University very easy. The breakfast buffet was excellent with many choices. We also enjoyed the restaurant and bar that was located within the hotel. I definitely would consider staying there again.

Excellent value in great location

Posted May 23, 2015
Pros: Location, staff, room
Cons: Double beds were on the small side
Location: We were there for a graduation at Columbia, which isn't far. Right next to Central Park and across from Natural History Museum.
Picked Excelsior for one night before daughter's graduation because its rates, though high by non-New York standards, were better than other offerings in Manhattan. Junior suite was much bigger than expected; huge by NYC standards. Location was fantastic for morning jog in Central Park and for getting around city. Front desk and bell staff were very friendly. They held our bags in secure area for a day after checkout which saved a lot of aggravation. Restaurant/bar in lobby looked fun, though we didn't get to try it. Will definitely go back.

Pros: The location and their breakfast room. The hotel is very European.
Cons: Coffee was not in the room and their hair and bath products were all orange scented?
Location: There was the natural history museum is across the street.
The staff was very accommodating and room clean and comfortable.

Older but grand hotel. Rooms were small but a decent size. Would book again.

Reliably comfortable

This is a little gem in the Upoer West Side. It's not hip, it's classy. A wonderful location and close to shops, cafes and Central Park just steps away. I've been coming for years and it's like a familiar friend.

The hotel and staff are really nice. The room was comfortable. The beds were a little hard but they added padding for us.

Good location

Posted May 9, 2015
Pros: Location, room size and bed.
Cons: The bathroom tiles were a throwback to when it was cool to stencil your furniture, but it is only a bathroom.
This is a great location for access to Central Park and the subway. One block across there is a street of restaurants which is good as you can find yourself in areas where there isn't anywhere decent to eat. The bed was comfy if a bit small and the room was clean. The carpet made my eyes strobe but that is by the by.

Nice hotel

Posted May 6, 2015
Pros: central to almost all popular tourist spots especially Central Park almost on the doorstep.
Cons: introduction of free tea/coffee making facilities in room
Location: visit central park and not too far from Empire State
Disappointed to find no complimentary tea/coffee facilities had to go out every morning to bring in tea/coffee or be charged per cup in the hotel. Considering the cost of the room per night I would have expected coffee/tea facilities, I wouldn't stay there again.
