Nicely appointed room; convenient to subway.Posted Mar 22, 2015
Pros: Location. Affordability
Took my son to New York for spring break. Cold in mid-March but we had a great time. Very nice hotel in a convenient location in upper west side. Short walk to museums, shopping, restaurants.

Great Location!Posted Mar 20, 2015
Cons: Coffee Pots are needed for the rooms. A small refrigerator and microwave would be nice, but a Coffee Pot is a must!
Location: Central Park steps away along with quaint restaurants and shops...love this area!!
This was my second time to stay at The Excelsior and we LOVE the location and will stay there again!! Hotel was clean, staff was very nice! A few things are needed....more than anything, a Coffee Pot!!! It was disappointing that my mom couldn't make her first cup of coffee in the morning. A small refrigerator and/or microwave would have been nice so we could have at least made our own coffee.

Location: Across the street from the Natural History Museum, and lots of good restaurants nearby.
The facilities at this hotel are very nice, with an elegant lobby and a pleasant room. The attached restaurant is a cut above the usual hotel restaurant and it was great on a nasty March night just to step across the lobby and have an exceptional meal.

GREAT hotel on the Upper West SidePosted Mar 15, 2015
Love this hotel. This was our 3rd stay here. Close to the museums, Central Park and subway stop. Friendly staff, nice size rooms, and overall the perfect place to stay in NYC. I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting NYC.

Good Upper West Side stayPosted Mar 15, 2015
Pros: Location! Easy to reach without driving through mid-town traffic. Many restaurants and stores nearby. Easy walk to Lincoln Center.
Cons: A notice said the hotel is under renovation, although I did not see any work areas. The carpets looked tired and needed replacement.
Location: Central Park, the AMNH, Lincoln Center, restaurants, shopping on Broadway.
I drove in from out of town arriving just minutes from the George Washington Bridge. Self-parking across the street at the museum costs half what it would anyplace else and lets me have access to my car anytime I want. Check-in at the desk took all of a minute. My room was quiet and comfortable.

Good location and pricePosted Mar 9, 2015
Pros: Convenience, comfort.
Cons: It would be nice to have coffee in the room, but that's not a deal breaker. Coffee bar in hotel, Starbucks a two-minute walk away.
Location: It is right next to the Museum of Natural History and less than a block from Central Park. You can walk through the Park to the Museum Mile.
We chose the Excelsior because it is close to where both of our daughters -- thus our two grandchildren -- live. In the New York City context, the price was reasonable, yet the quality seemed high from what we saw on line. When we got there, it was as good as advertised. The room was spacious compared to other places we've stayed there in the same price range. It had all the amenities we needed, was clean, quiet and comfortable. It is right next to the Museum of Natural History and less than a block from Central Park. You can walk a lot of places from there, though convenient subway and bus stops will take you anywhere in the City.

commentary on the excelsior hotel nycPosted Mar 1, 2015
Pros: the location near central park
Cons: customer service
Location: The museum mile is a short walk across central park. The nature and science museum is across the street. the Lincoln center is a short metro ride away
My feeling is that customer service could be vastly improved at this hotel. If there was a front desk person who had any information and wanted to be helpful on things and places to visit in nyc it would be very welcomed. We checked in at 11 p.m. and asked if there was anywhere to eat. His reply was the restaurant was closed. We asked about a liquor store and he said they were all closed. So we went to bed hungry. A coffee pot in our room would have been nice. I did not get the impression that hospitality was this hotel focus.

Rustige ligging dus ideaal s'nachts. Verder veel restaurants en barretjes in nabijheid die niet duur zijn in vergelijking met hoofdstraten. Goed verzorgde hotelkamers en gratis wifi in de lobby. Dik tevreden

Could have been really good.............Posted Feb 24, 2015
Pros: Location, price, room size, cleanliness, proximity of subway
Cons: Heating of room.
Location: Near 2 museums and Central Park, together with good crosssection of local shops, restaurants, delis, fast food outlets. Subway or walk for the rest.
A week in NY when they had virtually constant record low temperatures! Unfortunately, therefore, the fact that the air conditioning/heating in our room was totally unreliable was a major issue. I imagine it works well at keeping room cool in the Summer but when it is blowing out an icy blast at 4AM and the outside temperature is -15C didn't always give a happy start to a day. Apart from this though really couldn't fault it other than take your own travel kettle as we did. Not overpriced, good-size, clean room and bathroom that was well serviced by staff, and 4 minutes walk to subway. Free, small gym which was underused and generally empty. Free WiFi in lobby and on second floor but not in rooms. Staff were functional but not enthusiastic but certainly didn't experience any of the negativity expressed by others. Location is where it is; i.e. not central but quieter; therefore no disturbances by outside sound at night other by the ridiculous air conditioning unit. Being there for a week we had bought a week's subway pass and whilst had gone from JFK to hotel by Yellow Cab used the subway to return; which was covered by subway ticket other than right at the end when you need $5 pp for the air train; fairly easy to do only one change at 59th street but allow plenty of time. Didn't try hotel food or restaurant; although it looked fine seemed over priced and plenty of local alternatives.
