Great location and comfortable

Posted Jul 29, 2015
Pros: Familiar with the area
Cons: The carpet is worn and there was a tack sticking up. The toilet made a long, loud whistling noise whenever flushed and the tub drained slowly
Location: Bus to anywhere. Natural History Museum across the street - Historical Society block away. Across park from Met and other museums, shopping, etc.
This upper west side location is great to stay out of the rush of midtown but with easy access anywhere. The hotel is older and comfortable. The beds excellent. There are some worn features but hopefully the planned renovations will help address that.

Great location!

Posted Jul 29, 2015
Pros: Loved the location, quiet room and extra room space.
Cons: Another elevator would be great.
Location: The subway entrance is right at the end of the block. Central Park, Museum of Natural History, and Planetarium is walking distance away.
Excelsior is right next to Central Park and near Museums. Very quaint decor and comfortable. Room had a separate sitting area w/ second TV which our kids loved including the extra space. The room was quiet - couldn't hear neighbors. Hotel also provided us a refrigerator for free. Really enjoyed our stay!!

Excellent NYC hotel for the price

We stayed at the Excelsior for six nights while our apartment was being renovated. The hotel is beautiful--the lobby, the breakfast room, and the room (which was very quiet) and the bathroom has beautiful painted porcelain tiles. The neighborhood, the hotel is across the street from a lovely small park attached to the Museum of Natural History, is inviting with restaurants and delis near to hand. Our only regret is, given the length of our stay, that we did not book a suite.

Great location, ideal for families

Posted Jul 26, 2015
Pros: Location! Nice area (Upper West Side, near Central Park).
Cons: Staff on reception could smile!
Location: American Museum of Natural History just opposite. Central Park nearby.
We really enjoyed our stay. Hotel staff not overly friendly, but the Hotel was in a great location and was quiet and clean. Rooms overlooked the Natural History Museum. Subway stop on the corner. Loads of nice delis/cafes/restaurants within a few minutes walk. Every type of food available. We did not bother eating in the Hotel(seemed a bit expensive- $17 each for breakfast). Felt like a very safe area to walk around at any time of day.

So comfortable

Posted Jul 23, 2015
Pros: Everything I said from above. It was nice to have machines on the first floor for some sodas.
Location: We loved it…. so close to the New York Historical Society and the Museum of Natural History and the park. We even walked home from our show.
We were given a larger room than I had expected. Loved the furnishings and loved the bathroom tiles. Made me feel special. Perfectly located in the city. We even walked home from the theater. We were given lots of towels..which I love. Housekeeping was nice enough to clean our room late on a couple of days. It felt like I was going home each day to my own apartment in the city.

Great location for Central Park, New York.

Posted Jul 20, 2015
Pros: Location.
Cons: Room a little small for two people and not one to relax in but comfortable nevertheless.
Location: Central Park is on the doorstep as is the Natural History Museum. The east of the Park is where the other main museums are and the nearby subway prov
Decent buffet breakfast for the price ($17) but best to get there early as it's kept warm rather than freshly made. The connecting bar and restaurant are separate from the hotel, surprisingly, but there are plenty of restaurant/bars on the nearby Columbus Avenue of all types and prices. To see all the downtown sites best to get a weekly subway pass, there's a subway on the corner of West 81st Street by the hotel.

Hôtel agréable et cosy dans l'Upper West Side. Très bien situé, personnel sympathique, chambres propres. Salle de bain privée un peu petite, mais bon c'est NYC après tout. Certaines chambres manquent un peu de lumière.

Live like a New Yorker.

Posted Jul 19, 2015
This was the best hotel I could have hoped for. It was quiet and the bed was super comfy. The concierge got us great deals. We were across the street from the Museum of Natural History and a block from Central Park. We were very close to major bus and subway lines. I was worried going to New York would mean living sparsely because we needed to be frugal, but the hotel was near reasonably priced stores, groceries, cafes and restaurants. There is even a laundromat near by. We know we had a discount room because of being on the third floor in the back, but it did not matter and we felt like millionaires. The hotel is luxurious like a European hotel and has free wifi in the lobby and the best showers. Stay here.

Beautiful hotel

Posted Jul 19, 2015
Pros: Loved the shower and the water pressure. Wall thermostat with great ac Helpful, friendly staff
Cons: No fridge or internet without extra charge
Location: Right by central park and the subway but trains after midnight were a challenge. Taxi was $15 and it's a very long walk to Times Square.
Living like the other half lives! Lovely suite with French doors. Very old NY feel. Picey and a bit far from the action, but we stayed in a different hotel our last night that was closer and cheaper that made us wish we could have stayed here one more night. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will stay here again if possible.
