The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Wall St. close to subways to take you up town. The rooms are comfortable and not as small as some other boutique hotels. Nice amenities, and a pleasant and helpful staff. I booked this hotel in error thinking I was choosing their Midtown location but found it to be of the same quality as the Rockefeller Center. Good value in an expensive town. Don't try to use the New York number provided by Expedia, no one ever answers the phone.

"Quiet, Comfortable, and Affordable (for NYC!)"
The room was very comfortable and quiet (even on New Year's Eve), and the front desk staff was lovely. Though the location is not ideal (it is a LONG walk from Prospect Park), it is adjacent to the R-subway-- so only a couple of stops away from [central] Park Slope and about 20 mins into Manhattan.

"Incredible hotel on Central Park South"
Spent four nights during Spring Break at the Essex House. We love coming here. Perfectly located at the mid point of the park. Staff the entire trip was amazing from check in, bell, front door, housekeeping and really everyone we came across. The hotel itself was immaculate and love the art deco throughout. The rooms have been upgraded since the last time we were there and the one we had was a fantastic place to call home. Walk across to the park, short walk to Times Square and Theater District. It is near most everything you need, including subway stations. Our favorite hotel and worth every penny.

What a fabulous hotel! The staff couldnt have been nicer. It has a european feel. The rooms are not large but adequate, clean, well equipped n rather trendy looking. The location is perfect near a ton of great restaurants n even The Stinky Cheese shop. Also near attractions including the Transit Museum and within walking distance of theaters. The hotel keeps bikes for guests to use (weather permitting). Parking is next door and reasonably priced. A new york first!
