Nice hotel, very obliging staff.

Posted Jul 20, 2014
Pros: The hotel was lovely but it was the staff being so friendly that I liked the best.
Cons: More details on rooms for longer stays
Location: The location was lovely with everything that could be required very near by. It was very close to the National Museum and Central park
We had a brilliant stay at the hotel and the experience of New York. The room we orginally booked was too small and did not have a chest of drawers or anywhere to put clothes, it did look bigger in the picture. The reception quickly were able to ungrade us to a much more comfortable room for an extra 9 dollars a night without tax with a closet and drawer space. The smaller room would not have been a problem if only staying for a long weekend but for 2 ladies sharing for 9 nights, it would have been impossible.

Very good hotel close to everything

Posted Jul 18, 2014
Pros: Quiet, close to subway and restaurants.
Location: You had to go on the subway to get downtown but we prefer it to be a bit quieter so it was perfect. Central Park was very close.
Our stay at Hotel Belleclaire was excellent. Close to restaurants, shopping and subway. Only problem we had was that we booked 4 rooms and wanted them close together, but some of us were on different floors. I certainly would recommend this hotel to our friends.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. While not extravagant, the hotel was certainly adequate and met our needs at a great price.

Great little hotel with great staff

This hotel is a true travelers rest. The staff is accommodating and ever so helpful. The Belle Claire is close to fine dining as well as the NY Deli experience. Proximity to subway for cheap travel is 1 block away and a grocery is right around the corner as well as flowers and shopping. The hotel rooms are spacious by NY standards and Clean.

convenient location - out of the hustle and bustle

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Stayed at the BelleClaire for 3 nights last week while I was visiting my daughter who is a student at SAB at Lincoln Center. Perfect location - short walk from 79th st. subway line goes all the way to south ferry. Market right downstairs, drug store across the street, and we found a little diner (called the New Wave) just a block up, also a Serafina is on the corner serving Italian lunch and dinner. Longish walk or quick cab ride to Central Park. This is a boutique hotel, so don't expect big anything, but it was fine - staff, especially the bellmen, were very nice. Air conditioning in room was loud, and lobby a little worn, but room was more spacious than I've had before in NYC and it was very clean. Felt safe, and beds were very comfortable! I'd stay again!

Good location, lots of good restaurants

Posted Jul 13, 2014
Pros: location
Cons: new air conditioners or central air
Location: You can walk to Central Park and Riverside Park, riverside Drive, Lincoln Center. Subway lines are close.
Our room felt cramped, air conditioner was loud. Everything about the hotel is cramped and old. The bed was comfortable, but we had to ask for basics, clean towels and soap. Our poor experience began when I was asked to authorize $50 per day on my card for the snacks in the room. I told the young man I was not intending to purchase the snacks but he insisted on this fee anyway, saying it was common policy.

Lovely location, hotel with old time charm.

Posted Jul 12, 2014
Cons: The hotel did have some issues with the elevators - either slow, or not working - on a couple of the days.
Location: Great restaurants and bars on Amsterdam Street - Lincoln Center - Riverside Park - Central Park, the Museum of Natural History - Marshalls! - Zabars!
In town for 5 days, we really enjoyed being away from the craziness, noise and crowds of the Midtown/Times Square area. I had almost booked hotels there and was very glad to have decided on the Belleclaire. It is in a wonderful neighborhood with cafes and gourmet grocery shops (to pick up your wine & cheese!) easy walking distance to Central Park, the Lincoln Center and lots of shopping. The subway is close by too. The hotel has old-time charm, but is a little worn around the edges. The photos are a little bit flattering, but overall, we were very happy with our choice. We would definitely stay there again, but perhaps try to get a higher floor with a better view. The front desk was very helpful and efficient. There were free beverages (mint water / tea / juice) in the lobby in the afternoons and coffee & muffins/croissants were available for purchase in the morning. The umbrellas came in very handy! Would definitely recommend this place if you're the type of traveler that doesn't require luxury to have a great time.
