Decent hotel right on Times Square

Posted Apr 16, 2014
Pros: location
Cons: space
The staff was pleasant, and the room was fairly comfortable, but small. There was only one small blanket on the bed and no towel racks in the bathroom. Decent hotel overall but not fantastic. And it says Wi-Fi but it was not free.

After staying at several different hotels Hotel Carter is by far the best. I will stay there again whenever I visit New York City.

Excellent location and great value

Posted Apr 12, 2014
Pros: The location.
Cons: Over time, needs redecoration.
Location: Just around the corner from Times Square, i.e. New York at your doorstep.
What it says, i.e. a budget hotel, so don't expect anything more than a basic bedroom and bathroom, but is just round the corner from Times Square (you could see a bit of the square from my window) so a brilliant location. Don't be put off by some of the photos which come up on Google - my room was clean, with clean sheets and bathroom. As I understand it, the hotel is under new management from a year or so ago who are slowly refurbishing the whole building and are getting other problems under control. As mentioned, the room is basic, i.e. just a TV, no safe or fridge, and towels are only changed every other day, but this is a budget hotel so that's expected. There is no breakfast either but there's a great little cafe at the front which does omelettes and other breakfasts. So all in all, if you just want a basic room with a great location then definitely recommended.

Small but relatively affordable hotel room in NYC

Posted Apr 11, 2014
Pros: Price for the location
Cons: More light in the room
Location: Times Sq, NYC. Need I say more? OK, I'll say more - easy walk to the subway too. $2.50 gets you anywhere fast.
Fine hotel for the price. Small rooms. Old elevators. Not a lot of space, but this is the middle of Manhattan where space is at a premium, so I'm not complaining. The attached convenience mart on the 1st floor was a little pricier than it needed to be though.

Reasonable price in a great location

Posted Apr 11, 2014
Pros: Reasonable price, location, cleanliness, private bath.
Cons: The lobby is very unappealing.
Location: Just west of Times Square.
This is a good midtown hotel for travelers who care mainly about location and cleanliness. Staff was pleasant enough. Lobby was shabby-looking but clean. Room was small but clean. Beds were comfortable and linens were clean. Bathroom was clean. Towels were thin but did the job.
