544 is not a hotel, it is a converted walk up with no hotel facilities. The room was adequate but the bathroom floor was dirty. I would not recommend it

Hotel?Posted Nov 8, 2013
I think this is more of a hotel apartment and not a hotel. It's really hard to have heavy luggages because there's no elevator. Not enough space for luggage either. There's no one at the front desk all the time. I think manager lives in the building but we weren't told until last day of visit that he came out of the 1st room to have me sign something. I think I just woke him up because we were loud around the hallway.

The 'hotel' that is not a hotel!Posted Oct 29, 2013
We chose this 'hotel' because it had a kitchenette and we were doing NYC on a budget. Also Five44 offered a room with 2 beds for a very small supplement, something we couldn't find in the larger chains. The room & bathroom were a good size. Bedding was clean and changed once during our week. Clean towels were provided every day. Unfortunately the room had not been vacuumed or dusted when we arrived & was not done during our week. Beds were comfortable. We enjoyed being in the Hell's Kitchen area as it felt real. We found good restaurants and bars nearby. There are no communal areas or services in the 'hotel' & the desk was often unmanned, which is why I do not consider it a hotel. Also we found the front door unlocked a couple of times. If the rooms and stairs were given a thorough clean and the place was not described as a hotel I would say these rooms could be recommended to the traveller on a budget. It could be called Rooms at Fiive44. We loved NYC and hope to return soon, but we are unlikely to return to Five44.

Great locationPosted Oct 4, 2013
Great location in manhattan 5-10mins walk from times square. Hotel itself is nice like an apartment more than a hotel. Room was as described and very modern. Staff were helpful although the manager has basic english. They come round everyday with new towels and clean the beds every few days Price compared to nearby hotels is much cheaper and its worth it.

Small and compact room in good locationPosted Sep 27, 2013
Pros: Had the basic necessities
Cons: Lifts, room cleaned everyday, kettle in the kitchenette.
Location: Very close (15 mins) walk to Times Square.
We stayed just over a week in a queen bed room with kitchenette. the kitchenette was handy for breakfast and or making snacks when we didn't want to go out for a meal. It however did not include a kettle which we thought was unusual. The room is compact and bed a bit short but we are 5 foot in height so it isn't a problem for us. The only big negative was that there are no lifts and our room was on the 4th floor so there was a lot of stair climbing. Fernando was helpful and waited to check us in when our flight was delayed and we arrived at 2.00am.

Loved our time at Hotel Five44Posted Sep 27, 2013
Pros: Good location and price. Clean, modern, quiet rooms. Great service. Fernando is wonderful and even kindly lent an umbrella to us one day.
Cons: Shower water pressure was low, but we got used to it pretty quickly. Beds were a little hard, but a nice, warm, fluffy comforter made up for it!
Location: 2 blocks from 50th St subway station. Within walking distance of Time Square. Conv stores, restaurants and bars close. We felt very safe here.
Our room was lovely! Clean, modern and quiet. Even with no lounge or elevator, this place was *everything* we needed for almost a week in NYC. Roomier than we thought it was going to be.

Basic and functionalPosted Sep 22, 2013
Pros: kitchen facilities in room,
Cons: cleanliness of room and soundproffing
Location: quite close to main sites and easy to travel to everything
Generally good but opposite a building site so quite noisy from early in the morning, useful having a well stocked kitchen but due to lack of dish soap etc some of the dishes weren't clean on arrival, comfy bed

A week in ManhattanPosted Sep 20, 2013
Pros: Convenient location, clean, friendly with your own cooking facilities. Free good WiFi.
Cons: The shower was weak and trickling. But it did work.
Location: Good location near subway and Broadway.
I spent a week in New York in June. The weather was hot and muggy. The hotel was quiet for its location, with good air condition, a comfortable room and very friendly staff.

Great location,Posted Sep 14, 2013 on Hotels.com
Hotel itself is lovely, staff/ owner is very helpful and friendly, rooms are clean, having a mini kitchen was brilliant. Location of the hotel was brilliant 7min walk to time square (it's on the same road) so was so easy to understand where you are and get around. Only downside of the location is building work opposite and the builder start at about 7am every weekday so become quite noisy, but when that is finished it's a lovely little hotel, which I would recommend.
