Cramped space in a very good locationPosted Oct 18, 2014
Pros: Location, location, location.
Cons: Move the bed over and put in a chair.
Location: There is a hubub of city life and many restaurants, cafes, and bars right outside and on nearby blocks. Central Park is close-by.
On entering my Standard Room, I realized there was nothing I could do there but lay on the bed. It was very small and had no chair, though chairs at desks are shown in several pictures. The shared bathroom was slightly down the hall and appeared to serve several rooms, though I never ran into anyone. All of this, I think, is not unusual in Manhattan, but I cannot rate it highly on the average American scale. The cleanliness was fine, and the staff was nice. The neighborhood was quite enjoyable. There is a hubub of city life and many restaurants, cafes, and bars right outside and on nearby blocks. (Nevertheless, it was quiet in the room.) Central Park is close-by. This is an awkward place to stay, but in a great location.

Good value and good transport linksPosted Oct 13, 2014
Pros: See above
Cons: Quieter air conditioning unit
Location: One block down was a jazz bar we thoroughly enjoyed Surrounded by 24 hr shops Subway station across the road; the express trains stopped here
We had a fairly tight budget and as this was described as a family hotel we decided to make the booking. We needn't have worried; the reception staff were experienced and very helpful. Although no free wi-fi was available it was possible to confirm flights and print off the seat reservations free of charge. We were surprised to have not only a fridge but also a coffee maker, microwave, iron and ironing board. The room was small but then we were expecting that as we paid for a standard double. Safety deposit boxes were also available at no charge. I don't think there was anything we did not have that we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed the diner experience at The Manhattan Diner next door; there are no portion controls in place in this establishment!

Cons: maybe the elevators, but i don't know if that's something that's improve able.
Location: decent restaurants, and proximity to subway
love its closeness to the subway. very caring staff. wish the elevator was a little faster, but you can't have everything.

Convenient but disappointingPosted Oct 4, 2014
Location: There are many eating places and the Theater District is a short subway ride away.
It was our (self and wife) first time at the Newton. We stayed two nights. Good Points first: It is very close to transport. Subway express and local station was one short block as were buses and taxis. It was close to what we were in NYC to do. The staff was helpful - the place clean. There was a very good and inexpensive place to get breakfast two doors away. Disappointments: We booked five weeks in advance but could not get a room with bathroom. Shared bathroom was at end of hallway. Our room had a small double bed, closet, chest of drawers Micro wave (never used) TV, fridge coffee maker loud window air conditioner that blew right on the bed. and one night table with light. There was no chair of any kind - no table or desk. Only to bed to sit on. The nine story hotel had two chairs and one couch in the lobby. The place appeared pretty full. It was really cramped

In a good neighborhood.Posted Sep 25, 2014
The Hotel Newton was recently renovated and very clean. The room was an adequate size but there was only 1 straight back chair so to relax and watch tv you had to lay on the bed. The bathroom was small but brand new. There was a room airconditioner that worked very well. The lobby and stairway had recently been painted. Staff was very pleasant. This hotel was located just 1/2 block from the subway. I felt very safe walking to various restaurants and diners in the neighborhood as well as walking to the subway. Very reasonable rates for NYC..

Room and bathroom a little small but comfortable enough for two average size people. Close to subway and central park
