Great location but you get what you pay forPosted Mar 14, 2014
Pros: The location, you are in the centre of everything, few blocks from Times Square, Empire State. The bed was also comfy and we got a good nights sleep.
Cons: The decor, urgent need of being decorated so the hotel looks a better standard. Foyer is nice, but hotel rooms are very rough around the edges.
Location: Excellent location, loads of tourist attractions near by, Penn station,Madison Square Gardens, Macys etc all right next to hotel. Times square near by
Rooms are in urgent need of some TLC. They are very basic, and you can tell that the decor has not been touched since 1912. The woman who checked us in was ranting about being worked 'like a dog', but we might have just caught her on a bad day. The hotel foyer was always busy, plenty of people around and loads of lifts so you weren't stood around waiting. The corridors like the rooms just need some new paint and you wouldn't pay any attention to them. New York was cold when we were there so the room was a little chilly, but they do provide heaters in each room. Bed was comfy and relaxing. Those complaining about the hotel being noisy...hello you are in the middle of New York, the city that never sleeps...there's always sirens going off but you just get use to it and it's not that bad. If you are in anyway fussy, or have high expectations then this hotel isn't for you. However if you want a cheap basic hotel room with a comfy bed in the middle of Manhattan for a cheap price, then go for it. Now I know what to expect I would stay at this hotel again, especially if I wanted a cheap city break to New York.

The Hotel Penn is stuck in 1955Posted Mar 13, 2014
Pros: elevators.. .all 12 were always working well and were fast!!! but they were on our bedroom wall, and kept us awake all night.
Cons: solid structure building needs a complete facelift into the 21st century. Get rid of the dark old dingy open areas and let in the light.
Location: Lots of good transportation and food nearby.
A bathroom & shower beyond the pale.. Faucets that dripped, leaked, and almost could not be shut off almost causing an overflow flood. WiFi that was so horrible, it could not be used. The CATV just kept coming on whenever it wished, no rhyme or reason... had to be totally disconnected.

Right across street from penn stationPosted Mar 12, 2014
Always a decent, safe, economical place to stay in mid town manhattan. Rooms are quiet. Not luxury but more than adequate.

Cons: Decor, particularly in rooms.
Location: Close to subway links, Madison Sq Gdn, Empire State Building, Times Sq.
Fantastic location for sightseeing and all the tourist stuff. Not the greatest hotel but what do you expect for the reasonable price they charge.

Convenient hotel in new yorkPosted Mar 12, 2014
It is just pretty dirty and outdated, the concierge was very unhelpful. It is convenient if your a tourist but the rooms are very small and feel unclean. You can find much better for cheaper

Great budget option in Midtown NYCPosted Mar 11, 2014
Pros: Location brilliant, free internet access useful and breakfast plentiful.
Cons: The in room heater and A/c unit was quite loud.
Location: Opposite Madison Square Garden and Penn Station offering easy subway access to New York and JFK airport. Quick walk to Empire State,Macys and Times Sq
The hotel although a little dated/run down, was clean , tidy and staff were helpful. We had breakfast included which was a serve yourself pastries, apples, bagels, juice and coffee, served in the Penn 5000 lounge which also had 2 computers with free internet, printer and fax. Useful when planning the day of activities and booking things etc. For the money it was very good value with really great access to New York, as on the doorstep of Penn station!

Great LocationPosted Mar 10, 2014
Cons: Cleaning and redecorating.
Location: Penn Station and Macys adjacent and other popular spots close.
Hotel facilities need an update but price and location make it viable. Included breakfast is fine. Location, location, location.
