Period piece in a good location frozen in time

Posted Nov 8, 2014
Pros: Location, and purity of style. You have to expect the style.
Cons: The dining room and bar a super cramped, no windows, feels like a deep afterthought almost in the basement. Our DR service was slow and pretentious.
Location: Location? This hotel is 5 blocks from the center of the universe, Fifth Avenue at 59th street. Everything is here (we selected hotel for location).
As expected, this was a period piece decorated like my grandmother's apartment. The check in is the supposedly high touch thing where you sit on ancient chairs at a rickety desk and get fussed over (I like the mass production hotels better). The sleeping room had lithographs in gilt frames and the bath is fitted with replica pre-war tiles and fixtures - but all in terrific shape. It's a taste of an era you have to want. For super trend and hip, stay on the High Line.

Upper east side hotel

Posted Oct 23, 2014
Very nice upscale hotel, one of the best hotels weBe ever stayed at. They upgraded us from a regular king suite to the presidential suite for free, what a nice surprise. Overall the hotel was amazing just wish room service and betel restaurant was a little less expensive.

Upper East Side hotel for business

room and staff very good, breakfast a disaster; staff focussed on their UN guests, service very slow, food average, choice poor and prices through the roof!

Aging Elegant Lady

Posted Aug 24, 2014 on Hotels.com
This is not a five-star, overall, although it was listed as such. Four star overall. It is very dated, though excellent service and with that quiet upper-class feel. Needs some updating, though. Just not what you usually see in a five star like the Ritz or Four Seasons, so it should be four stars.

Fine digs in the big apple

Pros: See above
Cons: See above
Location: mid upper East side need I say more
First class room and service up to its reputation. Fitness center could be better but it's better than most hotels. Clearly a five star.
