“YUKY Place!”
2 very small towels! The place smelled! The very old TV had a fuzzy picture and the remote did not work. I tried to get a new one from the desk and the clerk acted as if she'd never handled a remote in her life.
“Not impressed, but ok to stay in.”
Has free car park, not so good continental breakfast. 10 mins walk to the subway. Convenient location. bathroom and room is clean. Safe neighbourhood.
“Pretty Decent Hotel”
For the price, this hotel is a good place to stay. It's cheap, which is what I was looking for and it's not too far from Manhattan, which is great. The nearest subway entrance is about a 5-10 min walk away which is also a good bonus. I was afraid that the place was going to be a dump full of bed bugs since it was so cheap, but I was surprised that it was decent looking. The building is small, but I was expecting it to be smaller to be honest. The room was decent, also pretty small but again it was also expected. The cleaning person came in everyday to clean up and bring fresh towels. I was visiting because New York Comic Con was going on and I would definitely stay here again next year if the price is still decent. It's not the best place, but if you're visiting and not looking to spend a lot of money, then I'd recommend this place to stay.
“Howard Johnson- just adequate”
The hotel was OK for the purpose of my trip which was NY shopping. It was pretty close to the Subway train station and the area seemed pretty safe. The room however had a very moldy/smoky smell. We bought Febreeze on our first night there. We also had problems with the phone. Never worked for outgoing calls during our 4 night stay. The person at the front desk though helpful and cherry didnt seem to understand the problem with the phone and it was never fixed. I appreciated that the room (especially the bathroom) was clean. And though the room was indeed small, it was adequate as we were only there to sleep. I would recommend based on the cheap price for NY and the proximity to transport. Just beware of the smell and the room size.
“Just a place to sleep.”
This is what this hotel basically was for us: A place to shelter our stuff and sleep for the night, nothing else. The hotel staff is absolutely listless and inattentive. I didn't bother us, but just don't expect much (if anything at all) when it comes to quality customer service. Example: For some reason, they placed me and my boyfriend in a handicap room, where the shower was basically a giant drain. We had to use towels to keep the water from flooding the floors. Sometimes housekeeping wouldn't replace our towels or give us fresh ones for the next day, even when we requested them. Needless to say, shower time was a daunting and painful process for us. The location is fine. About 10 minutes away from the closest train, with a sprinkle of eateries around the area. But like I keep stressing, it wasn't a second home or a marvelous get-away. It was just a place to sleep.
“You get what you pay for”
Basically you get what you pay for with this hotel. Its cheep priced so the hotel follows suit. If your looking for something fancy with high service don't stay here. Very basic service, breakfast is poor, rooms in not great condition. But here are the goods, great location, 5 minute walk to 7 train woodside station, fairly safe neighborhood was never worried about safety, and cheep price. Would recommend if your like me and only need a place to sleep at a low price. Had no problems and would probably stay again if I couldn't find a better deal.
“7 blocks from subway”
Cheap alternative to staying in Manhatten. Room small but adequate. Refrigerator and microwave came in handy. Minimal breakfast with just two chairs to sit. We were on second floor front but traffic noise not a problem. 7 blocks to # 7 subway which takes you to Times Square. Discount of 20 %if you stay 3 days or more.
“kinda far from the subway station”
it is New York so we get what we pay for, the room was kinda small but oh well, we would get there at 2am and leave at 8am so just to sleep was fine, the subway station is like a 15min up hill walk and around 2am it was a killer, the neighborhood was ok, nothing to be afraid of.........
“Conveniently located near subway, but small”
For the price, this hotel was worth the trip. The hotel staff was very helpful, pointing out thnigs to see and how to travel to Manhattan. I also purchased many tickets on-line and they were very accommodating in letting me use their printer to print the tickets. Queens is not exactly an attractive city. The surrouding neighborhood is very gritty (a sharp contrast to the Manhattan area), and there was a lot of city noise just outside the front window. But I didn't mind so much; it help me get to sleep at night (remember that scene in "Madgasgar"?). Don't get me wrong - it's not a slum. Another thing that was disconcerting: the room was very small for two people. As we started and ended each day, my daughter and I had to get out of each other's way to get ready. If you're traveling alone, this would be ideal. If you have more than two people, I would not recommend this hotel.
“Rude night receptionist.”
It was midnight when we finally arrived. We called for directions and the man could not give us any. He was very rude upon check in. the lady the next morning was great. Our room had a huge leak in the ceiling so our room smelled as well as the carpet was wet. We told them about it and it was no big deal and they said they were working on it. the room was tiny and at street level so it was NOISY. This was way too expensive for a dump. We were extremely disappointed to say the least.
