“Airport service”

If you need a place to stay to get to Newark International airport for an early morning flight, or you are arriving late and need somewhere to crash before heading into The City (ie Manhattan), this place will suit you just fine and not break the bank. Service: First off, if you call you will have to ask the staff to repeat himself several times. His accent is VERY thick. The complimentary shuttle to/from the hotel is convenient and runs 24/7 (as does the desk), but all shuttle from here run late. To get to the pickup location, use the AirTrain to get to Parking area 4, or P4. The hotel clerk will tell you Terminal P (and his P sounds like B), don't be thrown off by it. Getting to Manhattan: At the time of this review, NJ Transit's train costs 12.50 to/from the airport. Use the courtesy shuttle back to the airport to get access to it. Alternatively, a shuttle service will take you to Manhattan at 39th st & 9th Ave and costs 15.00 one-way, 25.00 round trip. It only runs a handful of times per day, though, at two-hour intervals, and you have to get reservations at the front desk.

“bad.”

They make you pay to park! $15 a night per vehicle. Room was ok what you would expect for the price. Loud airplanes flying overhead constantly.

Use phone directions or GPS otherwise it will be so hard to get around.

“Convenient location but may not be worth the hastle...”

The free shuttle service is free but could be inconvenient. I had to wait almost an hour for an early morning pickup after making several calls to the hotel front desk and repeatedly getting a "5 to 10 min" wait time. After the the shuttle arrived there wasn't even an apology from the driver. The hotel is in an industrial parking area so not very attractive. This is really only good enough as a last resort for a cheap one night layover.

“Convenient Location for the discounted Price”

Professional Staff and the rooms are clean. But the Shuttle Service to and from the Airport( Newark) is sub-par, as the Shuttle runs only every half hour, with a very small van. The restaurant( small) is appropriate with a limited menu. There is a small work-out facility which is good, but nothing extraordinary.

Area recommendations

As close as possible to Newark Penn Station. The reason is the NJ Transit train to New York is very expensive.

When to go

The best time to go is the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays, to enjoy NYC and all the festivities.

“howard johnson newark”

I will never come back to this hotel, for many reasons (see my qualifications). Adittionally i had maneu problems witj my room key , they had to change more that 5 times in 6 nights
