“waaay over priced and under serviced”
half the employees were not helpful & had an attitude. they completely forgot our wake up call on the morning of the big meeting that brought us to NY in the first place - they did call the first morning but not the second - exercise facilities are not up to par & were completely disorganized. Rooms nice but dated. Thermostats in the room was a mystery - too hot or too cold - great location but not worth the money. I would not go back ever.
“Not very good”
Old hotel with old pipes. Small rooms. Stay away. To many other choices in the city.
“First Stay in New York”
Our first stay in New York for our family of 4 (two teenaged daughters). We splurged on the hotel because it was one of the few we could find with the room for the four of us. We stayed in a Jr. Suite, which had a separate living area with a sleeper sofa and a wonderful king size bed. Room was a nice size at 500 sq ft. We just couldn't do a room with two doubles, which seems to be the typical NYC hotel room. Service was fantastic. Location is on Central Park South, so great access to the Park, but a bit of a walk to Times Square and the Met. One nice perk was access to a courtesy car (beautiful Audi A8) and driver, which was almost always available for travel up to 10 blocks each way (but they really went further). The Macy's TGD parade passed a block away.
“Thanksgiving 2011”
Great location, terrific service, exorbitant price but hey, this is NYC. We only stayed one night so we justified the price. If you are planning a trip to the city for the holidays, don't hesitate to stay here. Right on Central Park South, easy walk to shopping and theaters and subways. Parking on 58th street, get coupon on line, only cost $30 overnight. Room was beautiful. We stayed in a suite with pull out and king bed, 2 adults, 2 teens. Here are drawbacks and I must admit, I'm being picky: There is no coffeemaker in the room, so bring a small one with you. Plumbing is very loud when you are in sitting room and someone is showering. Small fridge is filled with mini-bar stuff so you can't use it but if you call bell services, they will bring an empty one up for you to use yourself. If you want ice, again, you have to call bell services, which I found weird. Food at the hotel is too expensive but several grocers nearby to purchase coffee, snacks. We had a lovely time and would not hesitate to stay again.
“Essex House is Great!”
We come to NYC at least once a year and had not yet stayed at the Essex House. We were more than pleasantly surprised. The room was spacious and newly decorated, the indirect lighting was spectacular, and the bed was perfect. Staff was very helpful, and the location across from the south gate to Central Park near all the upper west side attractions and Broadway is perfect. We look forward to our return!
“Wonderful service!”
We had a lovely stay at the Essex House. A pipe broke while we were there and they moved us to a full suite. They were very attentive to every detail at this hotel. The food was great as well. The decor was beautiful. Great, great place to stay.
“Good Central Park Hotel”
Great experience, however, a bit misleading when it referred to the view of Central Park. We paid for a "Central Park view" room, but the "view" was out the side window - looking at an angle. The straight-on view was of another skyscraper immediately outside our window. Also, for the "luxury" prices, you would think there would be a hot water pot for the room. But, we had to pay room service to bring us a pot of hot water and two cups.
“Pricey”
You are paying for the location - it is the best. Otherwise, nothing really stands out. The "suite" was just a larger room with a sofa bed. The view was down an alley and the tops of other buildings. The service was good, but so are others that are less expensive.
“Great Hotel in NYC next to Central Park”
Hotel was excellent in all aspects. They even arranged for a cake and a bootle of champagne for my wife's birthday. Bang opp Central park and a very short comfortable walk to Broadway and Times Square. But the most important thing was that the beds were very very comfortable - that is one thing that very many hotels are missing. Very highly recommended!!!
“Will stay again”
Stayed one night for a quick trip to NYC. The staff were very welcoming, took care of our every need, and the hotel was very comfortable yet luxurious. The room was perfect, had a great bed and large t.v. The location couldn't have been better...directly across the street from Central Park, just around the corner from Carnegie Hall and well located for accessing 5th Avenue and other popular sites.
