Across the street from Central Park, Jumeirah Essex House sits in the heart of Manhattan's cultural and business core, two blocks from Fifth Avenue shopping, 5 blocks from Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and 12 blocks from Broadway theaters. The hotel, first opened in 1931, has completed a $90 million renovation (spring 2007) to its lobby, guestrooms, and suites that pays homage to its Art Deco heritage. Recently, South Gate’s chefs have partnered with farms throughout New York and New England to create a new tavern menu featuring locally-sourced cheeses and charcuterie.
South Gate continues to revolutionize the dining experience as the first New York restaurant to launch the new iPad wine tablet. Dufeu, South Gates sommelier, will use this interactive touch-screen handheld device to educate patrons on the 700 bottle seasonal wine list.
