Location location location!!Posted Dec 4, 2013
Pros: The location, and also the facilities and how quiet it was.
Cons: The bath and shower could do with being upgraded, but it was clean and worked.
Location: Macy's almost next door, the Empire state/ 5th Ave a few blocks away, and Broadway/ Times Square a 10-15 minute walk. Subway stop right outside.
We stayed here for 6 nights in Nov 2013 and the best part was most definitely the location - located a few blocks from 5th Avenue and The Empire State Building, with Madison Square Garden across the street and a Subway stop right outside - you couldn't ask for more. Most of the staff were very friendly (ironically not the 'Assistance' staff though!) and helpful, there are ample lifts which are fast and work well, the room was surprisingly quiet (we were on 32nd floor) and the modern AC was quiet and worked well. The shower was old fashioned and a bit mental - it was easy to scald yourself or to freeze which is fine unless you are perhaps older or less mobile (but they may have other rooms better suited in which case), but it was certainly hot and there was no absence of pressure. The rooms were well remodelled in 2001 so are showing their age now, but it was all clean and comfortable, with enough space to accommodate vast quantities of shopping. There is a business centre where you can check in to your airline and print your boarding passes for free (surfing is paid per 15mins), and there was also a fitness centre. There is a restaurant (Coopers) and a diner (Tick-Tocks) on site too, and plenty of eating options close by. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others!

Pros: Excellent location (fantastic hub for exploring Manhattan & beyond), friendly/helpful staff & the brilliant Tick Tock Diner
Cons: Some corridors & room areas still look a bit tired despite a recent refurb.
Location: Only a block from Macy's, 2 from Empire State Building & a 10-minute stroll from Times Square. Penn Station, subway & tour buses also on the doorstep.

Close to main sights, easy access to transportPosted Dec 4, 2013
Cons: Coffee/tea facility in room would be a bonus
Location: Times Square, Empire State Building, very near Macy's, across the road fron Penn Station for access to other places of interest.

Pros: the name
Cons: that would require building a new hotel on that spot
Location: macys is near by, but I don't think people travel to see macys
The hotel looked impressive from the outside, but looks are deceiving. The room and the bed is tiny. The bathroom is the smallest I have ever seen, even after numerous trips abroad. No comfort or the usual amenities such as refrigerator, snacks, water, coffee. No room services unless specify what specifically you need such as to change 2 towels or change the bed, or need shampoo. But that is not a deal breaker. Three things are disappointing: you will hear the noise outside and the sirens the whole night; you will also hear the water pipes and the toilet flushing of your neighbors (hope they don't have to get up before you do); you will pay $1.00 for each piece of luggage to stay in the bell boy room and another $1.00 if you want to remove your luggage from the luggage room. This practice I did not know ever existed. It's not the money, it's the principle of things. Third world country don't take money to store your luggage. This hotel does. And lastly, you will not get a taxi that stands at the hotel, unless you pay the hotel personnel. If you order a taxi to the airport beforehand and the taxi comes 30 minutes late, you have to wait for that taxi, eventhough there were many other taxis standing at the hotel. You might miss the plane, but that does not seem to be important.

Hotel was great walking distance to many things.Posted Dec 4, 2013
Cons: Staff friendliness. Cleanliness of room. Bathrooms need remodeling. Very old. Beds too hard.
Location: Close to Times Square, Broadway, Empire State Building. Could walk to a lot of historic sites.
Spent Thanksgiving week at hotel. Upgraded room with a view & double beds. Got a view of scaffolding. Room was disappointing. Bed was very hard. Bathroom was small and in need of repair. Sink was stopped up whole time, tub and walls were peeling. No room for incidentals. Had to place them on the floor. Very poor cleaning of room every day. For the most part, hotel staff were not friendly. Diner food was ok, wait staff not friendly at all. All in all, it was a very disappointing experience. We read the reviews ahead of time and thought it would be great. Let's see if this review gets published.

Excellent stayPosted Dec 3, 2013
Pros: Big room, friendly staff, not a bad thing to say about the hotel.
Cons: Tea/coffee making facilities could be added.
Location: Near to most things we wanted to go and see.
Great location. Easy check in with Ruth. Room large with 2 bathrooms. Staff really helpful, Tick Tock Diner well worth a visit for a milkshake alone. We had a great time there.

Pros: The choice of rooms available to us, cleanliness and friendliness of the staff
Cons: Did not have any complaints at all
Location: Hotel was within walking distance for all our needs. Macy,s just a block away. Train station 2blocks away.
Lovely hotel with a great location. The lobby was our first impression and it was beautiful Art Deco which was very clean nice and welcoming. This was our first time in New York and this hotel was a great base as it was within walking distance to all we wanted to see.. On arrival we were asked if any of us smoked which we did not and were then given a choice of rooms either one with 2 bathrooms or one with a view, we chose the view. This was spectacular and we were very pleased.. We were given a complimentary coffee maker and a choice of coffee ie decaf mild strong, tea etc And refills were just a phone call away. Our room was cleaned every day with towels replaced as and when required. We used the Tick Tock diner in the hotel as it was good for breakfast and very reasonably priced. We really did not need to contact reception again until the day we were leaving. We were all very satisfied with our accommodation and would definitely go back and recommend it to friends and family.

Good locationPosted Dec 2, 2013
Pros: The location
Cons: Something lacking in it's character now that they have renovated the hotel! Coffee machine in the room.
Location: Lots to do in the location - we visited Hells Kitchen, Soho, Chelsea and Greenwich Village amongst quite a lot of different places.
Good location, but not much character - nearly every other hotel in New York had their Christmas decorations up, but there was nothing here. The staff on reception were helpful as were the meet and greet at the elevators. Quite disappointed with the Tick Tock Diner - we had two meals there and the Thanksgiving meal of Turkey was not at all nice - would not recommend to eat there, much better places to eat nearby. We visited the Tick Tock Diner a few years ago and it had much more character, but now that they have renovated it, it isn't the same - not like a traditional diner! Also, there were no coffee making facilities in the room - we've visited the US over 25 times and stayed in lots of hotels, but never NOT had a coffee machine in the room!! It makes all the difference to welcome visitors after a long journey!!
