Ideal base to explore NYC

Posted Dec 17, 2014
Pros: It suited our requirements in terms of location, being clean and comfortable with private shower room and free wifi.
Cons: Bigger bath towels! Felt like I was drying myself with a flannel!
Location: Central location. Lots to see and do.
Perfect for our requirements. Clean, modern and comfortable - lovely shower! Free wifi so we could use the Internet to plan our day, find places that had been recommended, stay in touch with family and check in for our return flight without returning home to an enormous mobile phone bill! Grand Central Station and many attractions within easy walking distance. Would definitely use again - hopefully in the warmer weather so that we can use the roof top bar and enjoy its views.

small but good

Posted Dec 17, 2014
Pros: pleasant staff- clean and modern facility
Cons: a restaurant with a choice other than mexican food- and tissues in the rooms!
Rooms (pods) are very small but ok for 1 person without a lot of luggage who won't be spending a lot of time in the room. new bats with small stall shower and no tissues available! Was perfect for a solo shopping/sightseeing trip- I would book again! Restaurant only has mexican food.

Great Location

Posted Dec 16, 2014
Pros: Brilliant location, modern design! Lovely Bar and restaurant , we visited in winter and the rooftop looked like it would be amazing in warmer weather
Cons: Rooms are very small , not a problem if like us you don't plan to spend much time there. Bathrooms not very private.
Location: Excellent location , easy walking distance to times square , Bryant park, Bloomingdales , 5th ave shops Etc. Round the corner from grand central.
Excellent location , easy walking distance to times square , Bryant park, Bloomingdales , 5th ave shops Etc. couldn't fault the hotel, very clean , the rooms are small but for those on a city break like us this didn't really matter, make use of the storage under the bed for suitcases to save space. The bathroom isn't very private so depending on your relationship with the person you're travelling with thus could be an issue. Free use of wifi and a Safe were handy too.

Affordable whilst not skimping on necessities

Posted Dec 16, 2014
Pros: The price, the location, and the sleep quality.
Cons: When on the heating/air conditioning was quite loud - but actually the room was a comfortable temperature with this off so we didn't really use it.
Location: Almost on top of Grand Central Station. We walked to Central Park, to Times Square and the Library although some of those were a bit of a trek.
Pod is very clear on its website about what it provides: the amenities you need for a comfortable stay at an affordable price, with not much excess space. For us it was perfect: the (queen size) bed was very comfortable and we got a good night's sleep, the shower (not shared) was powerful and warm and the room was (relatively) quiet. For storage there was enough underbed space to tidy away our stuff, and a couple of coat hangers for the few things that needed hanging. There was room to walk around the bed, but not much more - but this was as advertised. The location was great: only a short walk from Grand Central Station. There's also some nice communal spaces, including a lovely roof terrace, which didn't seem to be advertised in the lobby so it was pretty deserted (probably because it was the middle of Winter so the bar was closed). However, there was an inside room too that was cozy and very nicely decorated - we went up there one night and were pretty much the only ones up there. Great views out over New York.

Quirky pods

Easy walking to subway at central station, 5th avenue shops. Rooms are small, but well presented with comfy beds. My only gripe was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

Great Location

Comfortable hotel with all that you need, albeit in very tight space. Location near Grand Central is terrific. Noisy lobby, but otherwise quiet in rooms. Clean. Friendly and helpful staff. A good alternative if you aren't going to be spending much time in your room anyway.

nice-reasonably priced hotel

Posted Dec 12, 2014
Pros: good location- nice staff- great location
Cons: ice machine would be a nice touch, as would tissues!
Hotel location is great- it was clean and pretty comfortable but very basic- no ice machine or ice buckets, no tissues, no pen and paper to write notes on. Room is exactly as stated- a pod! Would be very cramped for 2 people and suitcases but not bad for 1 person with little luggage. Hotel restaurant only has mexican food on a very limited menu.

Nice location with everything you need!

Pros: Location and price.
Cons: Iron and board in the room.
Location: Starbucks and numerous restaurants just a block or two away on Lexington.
After spending over $400/night at various Midtown and Central Park hotels over the last few years (I travel to NY for business 3-4 times a year), I felt it was worth a shot to try POD 39. I can honestly say that my stay was enjoyable and that I would return. My only beef is that I didn't have an iron in my room, but my shirt wasn't that wrinkled anyways. I'm assuming a quick call to the front desk could have resolved this. Unless you're spending significant time in your room, which I'm not sure why you would in NYC, this is a great alternative to the $400-$450/night hotels in the area.
