Good location, very small rooms, bathroom issue

Posted Apr 19, 2014
Pros: Clean, free wifi, good location
Cons: Bathroom door! More than 1 blanket and 2 pillows per room. Reception staff following through with requests.
Location: It's quite a long walk from Penn station but if you're flying into Newark and want to save you can get a New Jersey Transit train & then walk to hotel
I stayed here with a friend between 14th-17th April 2014. The location was good for getting around- close to several subway stations and walking distance from Times Square, The Empire State Building, Park Avenue etc. Breakfast wasn't included in the cost of the room but you could buy breakfast from the hatch in the lounge (from a good range- waffles, bagels, pastries, oatmeal, fruit..) which was very nice and reasonably priced. The lounge itself and the bar next door were both well-decorated and modern. The bar also served great food. The whole hotel was clean and there is free wifi in rooms and lobby. There were just a few small problems- the room we had- a double- was very small- just room for a bed and a sink- but that was expected given the hotel name and location-it's fine if you're just using the place as a base and not spending too much time in there. It was very cold in the room, we asked twice at reception for an extra blanket, were told both times they'd send one straight up and they never did, so we were a bit achey every morning from having slept in a draught all night. Also the bathroom only has one piece of frosted glass which acts as the door- so basically you can have privacy while you use the toilet, then you need to slide it across to use the shower, and then back again when you get out of the shower..and it doesn't completely close so you can hear eachother using the toilet, I guess it'd be fine if you're a couple or very close friends!

Just about average IMHO.

Pros: Location was good. We tried the sister location (pod39) and this one is inferior. Concierge service was very good.
Cons: Maintenance and some staff need to be more customer oriented.
My phone did not work in my room, and my doughter's room had a heating problem. We told the reception but nothing was done. Don't care was pretty much the attitude we felt, they were fully booked. Not even a pathetic "I'm sorry". One elevator did not work which got things pretty slow too.

Small room, but comfortable and great location.

Pros: Location, Price
Very close to the subway. Walking distance to Central Park (about 10 blocks). The restaurant/bar adjoining the hotel was pleasant and had good food. The shared bathroom was just down the hall, but was always clean which was good.

Great value for money

A clean hotel in a great location. Stayed one night and it had everything we needed. A little bit of a tight squeeze but we didn't spend much time in the room. Definitely recommend for a short stay.

Nice and simple

Posted Apr 14, 2014
Pros: Location, decor
Cons: Both mornings we were woken up (around 9am) by housemaids trying to get into our room. Not ideal. Also, as mentioned, we could hear the bar music.
Pod 51 is in a great location, walking distance to most of what you want to see in Manhattan (a long walk to some of it, but do-able). The room we stayed in was small, as expected, but nice and clean and totally appropriate for the two nights we were there. Our room was on the second floor right above the next-door bar, so unfortunately we could hear muffled music below us until late into the night, but it wasn't too loud. The hotel has a hip and fun feeling, but everyone at the desk also seemed very professional. It was a good mix, and overall a good experience.

Hotel isn't what they make it seem

Posted Apr 11, 2014
The room looked online big but when we go into are room it looked like a jail cell or a closet with beds extremely uncomfortable.. and when we went to ask about the bathrooms and attitude from the staff was given. Unfortunately I would not stay here again it was a horrible experience
