Hidden gem

Posted Nov 12, 2014
Pros: D├ęcor and staff
Cons: A little noisy at night from the street below.
Location: Central to all things in New York
Lovely hidden hotel in the garment district in New York. Great staff, beautiful quirky hotel. Fantastic rooftop bar with a view of the Empire State building. Only stayed 2 nights so didn't get a chance to sample the food.

Cozy hotel & elegant - 2 blocks from Times Square

Posted Nov 11, 2014
Pros: The room was perfect size with a great floor to ceiling mirror. The staff was pleasant and I received 2 phone calls asking my how my room was :)
Cons: Offer to comp a drink in the lounge if the room isn't ready on time.
Location: It's 2 blocks from Times Square. It's a 20 min walk to Central Park.
I highly enjoyed my stay at The Refinery. The place smells great - they have candles lit so the place smells wonderful. It's located 2 blocks from Times Square. There is bar in the lobby, a rooftop bar, and it's attached to a great little pub type bar that reminded me of something I would see in San Francisco. The staff is cheery in there matching outfits that include suspenders (too cute). Overall I thought it was a great - down to earth hotel and I would certainly recommend it and stay there again.

Top-notch boutique hotel near theater district.

Posted Nov 3, 2014
Pros: See above.
Cons: Some staff members (one of the bartenders downstairs, for example) are young and inexperienced. They will get better as they lose some enthusiasm.
Location: Heart of mid-town. Close to theater district. We walked to and from Penn Station.
The Refinery Inn is a restored vestige of the old garment district. Staff members have a great attitude, and it seems well managed in every respect. We chose it because of proximity to restaurants and the theater we planned to attend. We would go back because of the excellent service and generally upbeat attitude of the staff. The restaurant is very nice, as is the downstairs bar. The rooftop bar is mainly for the younger crowd.

Highly, highly recommended

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the refinery hotel. The rooms are just fantastic and smartly designed. My room was located away from elevators and on a higher floor, which was what I requested. Slept like a baby. Bathrooms were clean and the stand-in shower real nice. Staff was to be commended for their professionalism and approachable attitude. The front door people offer you the use of the umbrella for free in case of rain. The rooftop is the main attraction of this hotel. Every guest should be able to spend a night with friends or partners there. Location is perfect. I highly recommend this hotel!

Plenty of style but with little substance

Posted Nov 3, 2014
Pros: Furnishings and decor
Cons: Staff attitude. Image is important but guest satisfactions should be paramount.
Location: The hotel is an oasis on a grubby street but great location if you want to be close to Times Square, Theatre District, Madison Square Gardens etc
A great property in a good location let down by staff who are more concerned with their image than they are with guest comfort and satisfaction. The (tiny) bottles of complimentary water are not replenished daily - they're only provided on check in. MEAN! The shower amenities were not replenished. MEAN! The breakfast was very good but pricy ($95 for 2!). The most unhelpful concierge ever encountered. Save the money and invest it in guest amenities.

Great location

Posted Nov 2, 2014
Pros: The bed. The toiletries. The location.
Cons: If all staff had the same attention to staff needs. A bath (I know I am asking a lot!)
Location: Bryant park is great in the winter- loved the market. Times square. 5th Avenue shopping.
We had a brilliant time in NYC. The hotel has a great location and the bed is super comfy. The staff were really helpful and some really helped t make the stay memorable, like the doorman who offered me water after my run on the final day. It would have been awesome if all the staff had have been this exceptional.

Beautiful Hotel in an Excellent location

Posted Oct 18, 2014
Pros: Everything - the staff were brilliant especially the doormen who were always on hand to provide help as needed. Facilities wonderful.
Cons: One tiny thing - the hotel provided a sumptuous dressing gown, some slippers could have been useful due to the wooden floors in the bedrooms.
Location: Location brilliant as mentioned above.
My daughter and I decided to have the trip of a lifetime to New York following my retirement. We stayed at the Refinery Hotel for 4 nights and we were extremely glad that we had chosen this wonderful hotel. It's location was ideal, located between 5th and 6th Avenue within comfortable walking distance to Times Square, Rockerfeller Centre, Macy's and a lot of other wonderful shops along Fifth Avenue. We did use a lot of taxis as walking for longer periods was an issue for me, this does take quite a lot of money but well worth it in our circumstances. We visited all the well known New York landmarks and found that an early start helped a lot with the queus and the amount of people - we were at the Empire State Building as they opened at 08.00 a.m. Similarily Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island and Top of the Rock. We had wonderful meals in a lot of special restaurants but the two that stood out were Gallagher's steak house in the Broadway area and The Boathouse in Central Park where we were fortunate in experiencing exceptionally warm weather and we enjoyec lunch overlooking the lake. A wonderful night at the theatr watching Jersey Boys was also a highlight which we'll never forget. Back to the wonderful Refinery Hotel, we were so glad that we had chosen a boutique hotel and not one of the much larger establishments that New York is well known for. The staff couldn't do enough for you and service was world class - actually made our holiday.

Superb hotel, fantastic staff

Posted Oct 1, 2014
Pros: Good location, comfortable rooms, great staff
Cons: More electrical sockets and lock on bathroom door
Location: Midtown between 5th and 6th avenues. Empire State, Rockefeller Centre, Grand Central, Times Square and theatre district, Bryant and Central Parks.
This hotel is superb. The room was well furnished and the beds were comfortable with lovely pillows and bed linen. The bathroom was well appointed with a great shower and lots of hot water and super soft towels. The staff are exceptional from the door staff who really made us feel welcome every time we returned to the hotel to the reception staff where nothing was too much trouble to the bar and restaurant staff who were efficient and gave us tips of what to see and good bars to go to. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
