Nice hotel close to Times Square

Posted Jul 23, 2014
Pros: The bed and pillows were very comfortable.
Cons: There could be a little more lighting but we understand it is part of the charm.
Location: It was the perfect location and close to everything. Short walk to Times Square, lovely little diner close by and lots of shopping close by also!
The hotel seemed dark inside when we first got there but we soon realized that is part of the charm. It was comfortable and perfect for us!

STAYED AT ROYALTON BEFORE

Posted Jul 21, 2014
Pros: THE ROOM WAS OK BUT NEEDS AN UPDATE. LOCATION
Cons: EVERYTHING I EXPLAINED ABOVE ... CUSTOMER SERVICE ROOM SERVICE ACTUALLY HAVING ONE ! NO LIFE, ATMOSPHERE IS DEAD AND UNINVITING.
Location: LOCATION WAS GOOD AS THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR PHOTOGRAPHY WAS CLOSE BY.
WE STAYED AT THE ROYALTON BECAUSE IT USED TO BE A GREAT HOTEL AND IS IN A GOOD LOCATION. THE HOTEL IS IN NEED OF A MAKEOVER, CARPETS AND HALLWAYS LOOK OLD. THE CHAMPAGNE BAR USED TO BE BUSY AND NOW IS DEAD. HARDLY ANY GUESTS STAYING AND MAIN LOBBY EMPTY. CUT THERE ROOM SERVICE STAFF FROM 7 TO 2 AND BRING ROOM SERVICE IN PAPER BAGS !!!! DINNER COST $149 AND IN A PAPER BAG !!! PLUS NO ONE EXPLAINED TO US ON CHECKING IN THAT ROOM SERVICE WAS NOT AVAILABLE ON THE WEEKEND AND WE ARE PAYING $400 PER NIGHT !!! EVEN THE MARRIOTT HAS ROOM SERVICE 7 DAYS A WEEK ...THIS WAS REALLY AMAZING. STAFF AT FRONT DESK WERE DISINTERESTED. HARDLY ANYONE AT THE DOOR AND WHEN THEY WERE THERE THEY WERE ALSO DISINTERESTED IN THEIR JOB AND NO REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE. THIS HOTEL IS IN DESPERATE NEED OF A MAKE OVER BEFORE THEY LOSE ALL THEIR GUESTS.

Modern but has issues

Posted Jul 15, 2014
Our room had a window to street below, so all night we heard horns and ambulances. In early morning we heard delivery trucks beeping. The halls were dark and narrow. The staff was very nice. I just didn't like the whole ambiance.

Nice, centrally located hotel - but too dark.

Posted Jul 7, 2014
Pros: Location - very central. Close to Rockefeller Center, 5th Avenue & Times Square. Central Park is about a 20-30 walk away.
Cons: Lighting throughout. Lobby is way too dark, even during the daytime - and signage would be more than helpful
The lobby entrance is very dark, the reception desk and the lifts have no signage, so you could easily miss where to check in. Apart from this, the staff were great, the check in process simple and the location is ideal is you want Rockefeller Center, Times Sq and 5th Ave. . The Queen room was a little small but nicely decorated. Storage was good, iron and ironing board and a safe were in the room. The shower was lovely - the bath is huge! Sufficient towels but no slippers and I had to call to ask for a hairdryer. Nice toiletries replenished throughout the stay. The wifi charge was $10 per day which is excessive as it's been free in other hotels I've stayed in. Breakfast was nice but limited choice and it does feel a little strange to walk through a bar when you return in the evening, but it wasn't instrusive to the stay.

Good Service

Posted Jul 2, 2014
Pros: Service
Cons: Food and room service
The service throughout our stay was excellent but the food was not especially when we ordered breakfast through room service. I would expect that for 2 very basic breakfasts and $90 it would not come in a paper bag, in plastic containers and plastic knives and forks. That was truly unacceptable. Bathroom lighting is way too dark

Cozy Ambiance

Posted May 27, 2014
Location: Times Square, Broadway
The Royalton lobby is very cozy with low lighting, which gives off an upscale vibe. Like most NYC hotels, the standard rooms are small and the hallways are narrow. The rooms are well decorated. The bathroom is spacious. Good for solo travelers and couples.
