My favorite hotel anywhere at any pricePosted Aug 27, 2014
Pros: Location, room, food & bar onsite, staff, everything
Cons: Update MOST of your rooms to the MODERN type signature room style - it's great!!! Otherwise, PLEASE DON"T CHANGE
Location: The ultimate location for New York City, so convenient to everything you want. I love MOMA, Central Park, street-food vendors, Patzerria, Carolines
This was my fourth stay at the Edison Hotel over a span of 27 years. I have experienced this place from the bottom up, so to speak. Staying in everything from the least expensive, non-remodeled rooms to the lovely signature room we had this past week and I've never been disappointed. The Art Deco decor, the history, the location, the Edison Cafe, the people. I LOVE THIS HOTEL like it's a person, almost. I am never disappointed here, but I'm not "high-maintenance" either. I met Katrina of Katrina and the Waves and Midge Ure from Ultravox ('80's bands) - they had stayed there after a show at BestBuy Theatre, There was a pianist inside the Rum House and our last night there we were enchanted by the sounds of live jazz emanating from the bar. The Cafe Edison is wonderful. I love the views from the rooms and the proximity to everything in Manhattan - we walked nearly all over the island. This is my home-away-from-home in NYC...Love you, Hotel Edison!!!!

Great Art Deco building, close to EVERYTHING!Posted Aug 27, 2014
Pros: Newly renovated room, low noise even though the hotel was completely booked, easy access to everything I needed or wanted. Super friendly staff.
Location: Location is great--Broadway shows within a short distance, tons of great restaurants, easy access to the subway.
Building is incredible--1930s Art Deco, large lobby with high ceilings & easy chairs/couches/coffee tables for guests. Great murals on the walls in the lobby, with cool old-school floors & revolving doors. Very helpful/responsive/accessible staff--front desk never had a line, & maids were responsive & always catered to our requests with a smile. There's a guard outside the elevators who makes you show your room key before allowing you on the elevator--nice safety feature. Location can't be beat. The streets were packed from morning to night (and I mean PACKED), but the subway is close & there are a ton of restaurants nearby, within every price range. As for the rooms: Hotel Edison's site refers to "Classic" vs. "Signature" style rooms. I can't tell the difference between them on the site, but somehow we just ended up with a "Signature" room--which apparently refers to rooms on floors 17-22. Talking to others on the elevators, these are the rooms to stay in! They have been renovated/updated, & are much nicer than the rooms on the lower floors. The rooms are very small, but adequate with clever use of space (nightstands with double shelves, shelves in the closet, etc.). Anyone who has traveled in Europe will find these rooms to be comparable in size. Space in NYC equals money, so it would be best to lower one's expectations when looking for a cheap hotel room in the city. Overall, a wonderful experience & I’ll definitely stay there again when in NYC!

Great central location.Posted Aug 26, 2014
Pros: Location was great
Cons: WIFI wasn't great and not free! Rooms were a little tired, and the restaurant attached to hotel was not great.
Location: The hotel was just a minute from Times Square and the great things to do round there. Subway was also close at hand. Awesome location.
Great location for the main attractions within NYC. Everything close at hand. Period art deco style hotel.
