Perhaps the finest hotel in NYC

Posted Mar 23, 2014
Hip, clean, and modern. The James NY has it all. The energy at the rooftop bar was memorable, fueled by signature cocktails and led by some very cool mixologists. The rooms are stunning. I look forward to exploring the rest of this legendary location.

Nice hotel. Lounge was overpriced but had a great.

Great hotel. Awesome service. Lounge was only ok but the views were killer. I'm sure it is much more fun in the summer when all the outdoor space is accessible.

Convenient location for soho shops and restaurants

Posted Feb 25, 2014
Pros: Location and staff
Location: Lots of nice restaurants and shops nearby
Enjoyed the refreshments in the lobby. A nice touch. Also appreciated the coffee/tea making facilities in the room. Had a corner room with double aspect windows - very nice and quiet. Staff very helpful

Very happy :-)

I will stay there again for sure, no doubt. The only thing I will keep in mind for my next stay is that the standard room is a bit small so I will take a bigger room next time. Totally recommend this excellent hotel.

Great boutique hotel in SoHo NYC

Posted Feb 6, 2014
Pros: The staff. Quality decor. Great restaurant.
Cons: All good.
Location: SoHO / Lower Manhattan. Very convenient.
A very warm welcome in a modern environment. Rooftop bar has great views over Manhattan and restaurant serves delicious modern American cuisine. A special mention to the doorman who in the snow and ice went that extra mile to get me a cab - great service!

Nice hotel in great location for exploring NYC

Posted Feb 2, 2014
Pros: Lower Manhattan location at border of Soho, Tribeca and Greenwich Village was excellent. Staff interaction was uniformly top notch.
Cons: Lay out of room is prime negative. While billed as a King Deluxe it was just not comfortable for use as anything other than place to sleep.
Location: Restaurants, shopping, sightseeing are all there. Jazz clubs, movies, nightlife all in easy walking proximity.
Hotel was reasonably comfortable and staff were accommodating. They had recently lost their passenger elevators due to flooding from burst pipe. Did all they could reasonably to make best of situation, except a reduction on room rate given the major inconvenience. Available storage was OK for a weekend but no longer. Room arrangement only permitted TV viewing from Bed.

Great hotel near shopping and restaurants!

Posted Jan 27, 2014
Pros: Great location near shopping and restaurants, friendly and knowledgeable staff, amazing views, clean and well-appointed rooms, great rooftop bar
Cons: Very minor maintenance on some of the furniture in the room is needed
Location: The hotel is located in SoHo and is near lots of quirky shops and restaurants.
The James New York is a great property with excellent staff. We stayed in a 2-room suite with 180-degree views of Manhattan and loved it! The front desk was excellent, the room was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, and the bathroom was the coolest I've ever seen in a hotel; one wall of the bathroom is all glass and provides a view of the New York skyline from the shower! There is also a really nice rooftop bar called Jimmy that is open year-round. Our trip was in January so we didn't use the rooftop pool during our stay.

Modern Hotel in Soho

Posted Jan 21, 2014
Pros: location, cool bathroom
Location: broadway shopping, dinner in little Italy, bars in the village all $7 cab rides away...or walk:)
I stayed at this hotel one night in January. It was a really cool place to stay. The hotel room is pretty small (I had the deluxe room) but it is NYC so to be expected. The highlight was definitely the bathroom. It had a gorgeous shower with a rainfall shower head. The entire wall of the bathroom is glass which is really cool and opens up the room. There is a privacy shade to put down. I had a view facing the entrance to the tunnel (room 905). Next time I will ask for a higher floor. The lobby was being renovated which was a bummer. The roof top bar was really nice with great views of the city. there is an inside and outside. obviously the outside part is too cold to hang in January. I peeked inside the restaurant and it looked really nice but no tvs for football so I had to pass. Parking was $65 for the night. Once you give them your car u can't get it back. The next morning we were told it would be 30 minutes to get our car so I would call ahead if you choose to valet. the location was the best part.

Great location with value

I was very happy with our choice of The James for our week in NYC. Modern decor with very comfortable bed and pillows. The hot bathroom floor was especially appreciated as our stay coincided with record cold temperatures! A choice of subway stations made it easy to get around, plus there is a multitude of things to see, shop, eat and drink in surrounding Soho. Despite being so close to Soho, hotel was nice and quiet so provided a good respite after a busy day out in NYC. I would not however bother with rooftop bar Jimmys - overpriced! Far better options in SoHo.
