“Cheap and clean way to stay in Manhattan”
This is the ultimate way to save money and be in a safe and clean location. The rooms are like a small cabin on a boat. Literally a bit smaller than two twin beds next to one another. Individual HVAC and a flat screen make it comfortable. The option I selected was a single with shared bath. The bathrooms were spotless. They supplied a robe and slippers.
“Beautiful old building”
Like stepping back in time to an era of more gracious living, but with modern plumbing and wi-fi!
“The Jane”
The Jane Hotel is great, this little hotel has tons of personality. The Staff are awesome, friendly and very helpful. It is conveniently located within walking distance of the Subway and being about a 5 minute drive from most of North Manhattan. Cafe Gigante is in the lobby and has great food and coffee. The rooms are small but perfect for one person traveling alone. The bathrooms are well maintained and even though they are shared I never had a to wait. If you are coming to NY on a budget or want to try a hotel that marches to its own beat try The Jane.
“Would stay there again”
This is a great, inexpensive option in nyc if you're going to be active and not spend a lot of time in your room. I just wanted a place to sleep and found it satisfactory. There was never a hassle using the shared bathroom facilities but the beds were not that comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful and The "Gitane" cafe was very good for breakfast and dinner. Depending on the nature of the visit to nyc, I would stay there again.
“Nice neighborhood. Small cabins.”
Nice neighborhood. If you want a cabin only to sleep and you are planning to be outside all day long, this place is ideal. A lot of good restaurants and bars. Subway is near. Do not expect too much from cabins.
“Most Excellent Value & Location”
The rooms are tiny, but comfortable. All I needed was a clean, no frills, INEXPENSIVE place to sleep and this hotel fit the bill perfectly. The hotel is only a couple of blocks from the High Line park and about 100 yards from the Hudson river sidewalk. There are a lot of nice cafe's within walking distance and a subway station is nearby. At first, I was a little concerned by the thought of communal bathrooms, but it turned out to be no big deal. They are kept very clean and everyone got along quite well (Still, it was startling the first time I noticed a stranger in a bathrobe brushing her teeth at the sink next to mine. I got used to it pretty quick though). This hotel will be my first choice when I visit New York again. I only hope that it doesn't get so popular that the price goes up.
“tight but right”
Not a bad place to stay as long as you can live with a really really small room. Location is convenient. 14th St Subway station is close with A Train connection to the JFK Airtrain.
“highlight of New York!!”
i traveled to NYC with my partner for a unforgetable time in the big apple. we found this quaint little bohemian hotel called the Jane, littile did we know that this hotel was going to be packed full of great surprises!! the French cafe was delight!! we ate breakfast there every morning, and the staff was great. the hotel bar was loaded with fantastic behemian style and had a great vibe!! the location of this hotel was the best, located in the west village just a short walk to Greenwicj village it was the perfect location!!
“Great Experience - Unique Stay”
The Jane is a great place if your stay warrants it. The rooms are tiny - and for finding a place to sleep only. If you are traveling through NYC - and don't need a big room - then it's to go-to place. The hotel and rooms were clean. Service was great and it was a very unique expereince. The shared bathrooms were clean and never a problem. Great showers. The location is awesome. Right in the heart of the meatpacking district - though 3-4 block walk from the subway.
“A Great Gem”
I really enjoyed my 5-night stay at the Jane. Though small, the single cabin room was quite comfortable. I had plenty of storage space for my bags. The building was quiet at night, and I never had any issue sleeping. The shared bathrooms were clean, and I never had any issue getting into a toilet or shower stall when desired. If you want to stay in the Village at a good price, this place is unbeatable. I spent my days working at the NYPL on 5th Avenue, and the 3 train (the 7th Street express) was easy to catch at 7th Ave and 14th street, just a short walk from The Jane. That line lets off at 42 Street (Times Square Station). The High Line is a few hundred yards away, and it's a great place to stroll and people watch. If you don't mind hoofing it, you can make it all over the village, including Washington Square Park, in a small amount of time (or take the 3 train to 4th street). The Hudson River Park--right across the street--is a great place for running, walking, or just people watching. Also, with Tortilla Flats and Chelsea Market right by, you'll have no problem finding a great bite to eat within a quarter mile of The Jane. I would definitely return to this hotel for its quirky charm, its value, and its great location.
