Staying at The JanePosted Jan 7, 2015
Pros: It's like being on the set of a Wes Anderson movie! Who wouldn't like that!?
Cons: The radiators in our room was VERY loud. It sounded like very loud banging on pipes and it happened a few times during each night of our stay.
Location: Love the area! Highline, Chelsea Market, Spotted Pig, bike path along the Hudson... wonderful location!
Surprise get away for my husband & I as his Christmas gift. We loved our stay at The Jane! The Ballroom is gorgeous! Nice place to cozy up for drinks after a long day out and about before heading out again for dinner plans!

Cheapest Hotel in ManhattanPosted Jan 2, 2015
Pros: Character and history.
Cons: Cleaner bathrooms.
OK maybe there are less expensive hotels in Manhattan, but the Jane has such character and history and is in a good location in the Village. The rooms are tiny with a shared bathroom, but what do you expect for $99 a night in Manhattan. Overall a good value for the money. Try to get a room with an exterior window, the interior rooms look out at an uninspiring courtyard. The only disappointment at the Jane was the shower was pretty nasty. God help you if you forget to bring your flip flops. Someone thought it would be a good idea to trim their pubic hairs in the shower, and leave them for the next guest. The long black hairs on the shower wall weren't a crowd pleaser either. At least they matched the black hair in my bed. But hey, at least I didn't get bedbugs (probably because I slept in my sleeping bag).

Prison cell where no smoking means lots of smokingPosted Dec 17, 2014
"No smoking" floors have NO SIGNS saying it, so smoking occurs everywhere. I changed floors and both no smoke floors were filled with smokers. Parties held in bar have loud sound systems and will keep you awake on 3rd floor.

Ballroom exceptional!Posted Dec 16, 2014
Pros: general ambiance
Location: Greenwich village, 20 minutes from most central attractions
an experience for sure. Not for everyone since this hotel is NOT comfortable but an historical venue (Titanic survivors were sent there after the tragedy, and was a former Captain and ship's crew hotel)

A theme/character experiencePosted Dec 14, 2014
Pros: Great ship-cabin theme and shared bathrooms are attractive and well maintained
Cons: Nothing within the limits of its specific history/theme.
Location: High-Line park end being only 2-blocks away was very convenient for a morning walk before heading out to the airport on the last day.
Personally I appreciate the experience of the Jane which has a very definitive character being that the rooms are essentially the same as cabins (albeit on a now older type of passenger ship). Only downside to (at least) the single rooms for this shared bathroom hotel is that there's no sink in the room -- if that's a deal-breaker for you the so be it, but otherwise a fine choice at a reasonable price-point.

Very nice hotel, the bunk rooms were kind of small for 2 people but not a problem if you are only sleeping there.

Great location for a cheap stay.Posted Dec 9, 2014
I was really impressed with this hotel for two reasons. First the location and secondly the price. If you are coming for luxury then you will be disappointed. Of you're coming for a cheap place to sleep comfortably with no frills and accessible to see most of Manhattan then this hotel is perfect for you. The hotel is decorated in a bohemian style, it is clean and tidy but not the type of hugh class hotel you come to expect of New York. But it suited us, a couple come to explore New York for 5 days, leaving our children at home with Nanny. We had a bunk room. It is literally that. A bunk bed with about 4ft to walk. It was clean and functional and very warm, but the air conditioning unit worked well. We visited in December so it was about -2 outside but it was so toasty in the room we needed the air con on once we were awake as it got too hot once we started to move about. We used te shared shower and toilet. We found them clean and smart. We didn't have to wait to use them once (although we were up early about 5am most mornings). Staff were helpful and friendly but typical New Yorkers so didn't bend over backwards but would help when asked. If you tipped well they would help with anything you needed, our baggage was delayed arriving so they have is toiletries and extra towels on arrival as we had nothing with us. The hotel is located in west village, near to the trendy, edgy side of Manhattan and walking distance to downtown and Greenwich village. Great subway links too.

Love the Jane!Posted Dec 9, 2014
If you like funky old world charm with a European flare you'll love the Jane. I think Wes Anderson must of stayed here before he made the Grand Budapest Hotel. Great location, excellent restaurant an overall lovely experience.

EmpfehlenswertPosted Dec 8, 2014

Trevlig personal.
