The rooms were as small as advertised, which was a bit difficult to maneuver, but there were two tv's! Also, the lobby is amazing, the rooms look so nice and the beds are comfortable. It was the place to be in the evenings, but you couldn't hear any noise from the rooms. Excellent!

Convenient location, tiny cabins and shared bath

Posted Mar 25, 2015
Pros: Cafe Gitane, the hotel bar, friendly staff
Location: West Village- short walk to some of the best drinking, eating, and shopping in NY
Let me begin by saying I LOVED The Jane. In a city full of meh $300/night rooms, it's a breath of fresh air. The standard accommodations are tiny 50 sq foot cabins with under and over bed storage. No sink or bathroom in the cabin itself, but a there are two nice clean bathrooms at the either end of the hall. While the rooms are tiny, they're comfortable and clean, and provide a quiet, safe place to rest after a full day in NY. Cafe Gitane downstairs is a great place to hang out, have a coffee and a light meal, or just to catch up on emails. The real gem of The Jane is the bar. Gorgeous dark wood paneling, a real fire in the hearth, and decor right out of The Shining. Looks unchanged from the 1930s. If you don't mind the shared bath and tiny sleeping rooms, this place is a gem.

Price is right in good location

The hotel seems to trade on qualities other than service and niceties. Sort of like staying in a YMCA that has pretty rooms.

Very historical

Great history. The hotel is in a great location on a safe brick lined street. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Rooms are super small, so if you are closterphobic, do not try it! However, it was definitely an experience of a lifetime!

The Grand Budapest Hotel x the West Village

Posted Mar 5, 2015
Gorgeous vintage-y hotel, full of character, located in the West Village, right on the Hudson. It felt a little like I'd walked into the Grand Budapest Hotel. Rooms are small, but clean and comfortable - perfect for a NY stay as you're hardly ever in your hotel. Bathrooms are shared, unless you choose to stay in a Captain's Cabin, however they are quiet, clean and have hot water. The staff were wonderful and super helpful and cannot be faulted. If you need recommendations for places to visit or eat in the area (or farther afield) have a chat to the front desk staff - they know places! Cafe Gitane is attached to the hotel and is awesome. I recommend the avocado on toast if you go for breakfast - it's delicious! The Jane Hotel bar is also a fun place for drinks and to see NY nightlife after a long day. The hotel is located right on the Hudson, which provides some killer views, especially at sunset. It's close to a subway station which will take you uptown, or to Brooklyn and beyond. Also close to the High Line, Chelsea Market and many amazing little spots just waiting for you to discover (or rediscover) them. The Jane Hotel was a perfect delight.

Like the Jane

Posted Mar 2, 2015
Pros: See above
Cons: See above
Location: Great location for walking around the West Village and along the river.
This is our second time staying at the Jane - this time we had Captain's Quarters with private bath - very nice. Pros: Clean, covenient to the Village, quirky decor. Free bottled water in room! Energy efficient and inexpensive. Cons: Bed wasn't all that comfortable, large drunken crowd waiting for admission to bar on site late Friday night to navigate through..bouncers almost didn't let us through. Asked for coffee pot in room, never received one.

New York was cold and our little room was warm!

Posted Feb 27, 2015
The Jane was located perfectly for us to get to public transportation and move about the city. The price was right and the room tiny, but warm and comfortable. The staff was kind, helpful and thorough. New York was bitter cold. Thank you Jane for keeping us warm.
