“Can't wait to stay here again!”

I thought that this was a wonderful hotel to stay at! Everything was in walking distance and room was clean and beds very comfortable. I would recommend that you stay above the 12th floor for a great view. This was a safe neighborhood as well, and the hotel was very accessible. We plan on coming back and staying at this hotel again soon!

“Meh”

Decent enough hotel... although not what I expected for the amount paid per night. We had a tiny room at the end of a hall that was maybe 200 square feet. Very few outlets and the power strip behind the table was about 25 years old and barely held a plug in it anymore, we had to charge phones in the bathroom at night because the charger kept falling out of power strip. I don't get how this is considered a 4 1/2 star hotel... most Holiday Inn Expresses are nicer. BUT.... Location is great however. If you want to be near Times Square and aren't going to spend much time in your room, this place will be fine.

“Great for First Timers!”

This is really my 2nd trip to NYC, but this hotel would have been perfect for my 1st time. You can pratically see 42nd St from just walking outside the hotel. And for convinience, there are many subways around the hotel you can take to get around. Beds are comfortable for those long days of just walking and enjoying NYC life!

Area recommendations

If you enjoy peace: Walk from East 81st St across Central Park down to Bethesda. National History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art are worth the cost. If you enjoy history: Walk through Chinatown just before the sun sets to enjoy beautiful buildings and breeze through Little Italy as the sunsets to enjoy the candlelight’s from opening restaurants. If you enjoy the past (which is the same as history, I know): Check out Wall St to see some serious business men huddle around in groups smoking cigarettes down to Battery Park and take a ferry ride to Ellis and Liberty Island. Unfortunately, Ellis and Liberty Island were the only places I did not have time to visit. But I’m confident to return back to NYC and would suggest this to be the first Hotel to stay in.

When to go

Christmas Time has been the only time I've gone and I simply enjoy it. If you love Christmas, this is a great time to come out. However, I have heard that Spring is the best time to show up, along with Fall.

Getting there

LGA is closer to Manhattan and cost about $40 or less to get a taxi into the city,. You may also take the M60 bus from the airport to Subway N (Astoria) into the City. JFK is far from the City but Subway E rides along through JFK and can easily bring you into the city.

Getting around

This hotel provided us a free map of the city which contained all subway paths. It was very convenient considering the cost some stores charge for their maps.

“Great location....”

Travel with another female and we both felt very safe in this location. Restaurants near by were good, liquor store down the block. Perfect.....will definitely recommend to others and return myself.

“Great location, but an average hotel. No WiFi in rooms.”

I liked the location of The Manhattan, that was the best thing about the hotel. It was moderately priced, so I didn't expect the Plaza or anything like that, but I would have liked to at least have WiFi in the room, not just in the lobby. They do offer an Ethernet plug in the room, but that doesn't help with a MacBook Air or iPad. The room was clean enough, the lobby restroom was not. I would rank the room I stayed in (Standard King) on par with a Holiday Inn Express, but I have stayed in some Holiday Inn Express's that were nicer than this.

Area recommendations

I really liked staying in Times Square, where The Manhattan is. Close to many things. I would have also liked to stay nearer Central Park as well.

“Good location, worn down guestrooms”

The hotel was in a convenient location which was most important to me. The lobby was nice enough and outfitted with computers for traveler's use. The guestrooms were a bit run down and tight (as expected in NYC) but the view was exceptional. The bed was clean and comfortable.

“i was disappointed”

The staff was helpful and friendly, but the rooms were not a typical "starwood" hotel. really wished the restaurant was open for more than just breakfast, no room service available either.

“Adequate hotel in Time Square / Theater Area”

The location of the hotel was fine and is located just blocks from Broadway shows as well as Time Square in one direction and Central Park in the other. It was also a good hotel to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade from our window facing 7th Avenue. While we could see the balloons perfectly there was an outside overhang that blocked some of the street view. More importantly the hotel had only a breakfast restaurant and a limited store. The concerige serves feature two old men that were rather grumpy and not all that pleasant. One was shouting at the top of his lungs on the phone for several minutes. The other gave short snappy responses and then waved us off before we had all of the information. The rooms seemed small and the walls were paper thin. We found a flip flop in the room. The window could not be opened and the tempature was not easily adjusted (if at all). The biggest issue was that in the information describing the hotel I was led to believe that there was free wireless in the room - but actually there is only limited wireless in the lobby for thirty minutes at a time (which is a pain when one is a professor and trying to teach online). I had to pay over $14 bucks for a 24 hour period to have access in the room.
