Excellent Stay

Posted Jul 12, 2014
Pros: I loved the comfort of the beds and its location.
I hope to return to New York City and will stay in the same hotel. It is very clean and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. I like the decor and the beds are very comfortable. I like the Gramercy Park location and that it is in walking distance to so much.

Convenient location for a reasonable price

Posted Jul 10, 2014
Pros: We liked the Marcel's modern style, found the staff very helpful and the room very clean. Their welcome glass of wine, extra hangers were appreciated
Cons: Could not adjust the air conditioner or open the window; the bathroom fan did not work. Fridge not for personal items, no kettle or wireless in room
Location: Close to Union and Madison Square, taxied to Central Park, Guggenheim etc. and walked as well. Took the subway and walked from there too.
We chose the Marcel upon the recommendation of family and convenient to Union Square where we were visiting. it is not close to the subway, one will have to walk a few blocks but we found walking was good and caught taxi's when tired. We stayed seven nights. Overall we enjoyed the Marcel and would definitely stay there again.

convenient location, comfortable room

Posted Jul 8, 2014
Pros: Room was small--nearly wall-to-wall bed--but comfortable and spotless. Air conditioning was responsive to the settings I entered.
Location: Empire State Building is close enough to walk, as is Beth Israel Medical Center and Hospice.
We needed a hotel close to Beth Israel Medical Center and one that was affordable. This hotel on 24th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues was ideal on both counts.

Small and quaint, yet cozy getaway cove! We enjoyed our nights at the Marcel. Our room was quiet and gave us a true New York feel! The staff provided excellent service and directions!

Small room in a good location

Posted Jul 1, 2014
Pros: Location. Price. Look and feel.
Cons: Internet Access.
The hotel is renovated is a good way which explains its excellent looks. However, it also explains some small problems. Water drainage in the bath tub is slow, so your feet will get stuck in a pool of water if you take a long shower. I don't know if that was just my room or not, but I've seen this in older buildings before. My room had a good view of the street but it was way too close to the elevator (note to self: make sure to stay away from the elevator next time). It wasn't noisy because people were talking outside, but because they were walking and the floor made a noise under the fancy carpet. The wireless Internet access wasn't included in the room fee and was expensive for its average quality. You can get free Internet access in the lounge on the roof with a good quality. Maybe my room was just in a bad location to access the wifi spot. Best part was the breakfast in the lounge. It's on the roof with a great view of the Empire state building and 3rd ave. You can sit outside and enjoy the sun and morning breeze. Staff was friendly and helpful. I also enjoyed the small details of the room. Made this stay unique.

Good overall experience

Like most NYC hotels, the room was small -- but makes good use of the space. I had no closet space in my room, but as a solo biz traveler, that's not really a big problem. Hooks and shelving on the wall were good enough. My room was right off the elevator and with a street-facing room on the 4th floor, but the noise was also minimal. Good hotel for the price!

Great location. Close to bars and the subway.

While the rooms are small, they are ideal for a short stay. Adorable rooftop patio to relax with a bottle of vino and enjoy the breezy summer nights.
