“Awesome! Thrilled the Teens and the Boomers”

The Marcel was a total hit with my beau's teens (their first NYC trip ever), and it was absolutely a gem for us. The rooftop deck and hospitality suite w. internet was a daily visit, and the hip, sleek rooms were pristine and comfortable (we had a king, the kids a room w 2 doubles). Hotel honored our request to be on the same floor. Doormen were fantastic, helped us get free street parking, and a jump when the battery died. Popular with Europeans, which made it even more fun for the kids. Quiet every night of our week stay. Nice bar downstairs. Ideal location, 3 blocks from subway and Pink Berry, 5 blocks from Shake Shack and the Flatiron Building. A super value and a rare find in NYC: clean, modern and shiny new.

“Nicely decorated hotel, centrally located”

Hotel is nice, clean with a nice decor. Rooms are rather small and even a bit crammed, but no different in that regard from all other hotels I have been in NY.

“Very good experience”

Hotel looked and felt new and modern, quality and decor of room was great, expect for a ceiling-mounted showerhead that dripped cold water when only using the wall-mounted showerhead. Minor issue. Our room had a view of the Empire State Building. Very comfortable and clean. I would go back again and definitely recommend the Marcel Hotel.

“An excellent small hotel”

The Marcel Hotel is like a small European hotel. The staff is very courteous and welcoming, and the lobby and guestroom space is well-designed, and very clean. I have stayed there twice and have enjoyed both stays. Highly recommended.

“Excellent choice”

I enjoyed the hotel, both the location and the amenities. It is well located both in respect to my work and a variety of good "ethnic" restaurants. My only quibble was an overly noisy bathroom fan!

“Big, big performance from a tiny hotel”

Hotel Marcel is just this side of trendy, everything is tastefully done and beautifully put together. Lobby is minimalist, no bar or restaurant currently. But the people are friendly and efficient. The bellhop crew is exceptionally good. Our room admittedly was tiny, and there was virtually nowhere to sit and watch TV or read, except in bed. But that's the way it is, and the room was very nice, very clean, and very efficient. The bathroom was even smaller, but tiled in marble and spotless. If you are six-foot-six and 300 pounds, you would be challenged in the room we had. Make sure that your queen bed is actually a queen (the "queen" in our first room was a double). However the front desk folks changed the room in a heartbeat. If the price stays tiny, relatively speaking, we absolutely would recommend Hotel Marcel to our friends, and come back ourselves. If you need to be in this area, the twenties (east or west), this is the place to be. You will be very happy with Hotel Marcel.

“A Downtown Gem”

The hotel was warm and welcoming from the moment you check in (greeted with a glass of champagne), the doorman who was so very helpful and the staff who seemed to go out of their way to help. The room was NYC small, which really didn't matter since the furnishings, bed and bedding, towels (the fluffiest ever!) were AAA quality. The large flat screen TV was an added plus, and even the photos on the wall and shelves were thoughtful and contemporary (something I would hang in my own home). My only complaint is that it would be nice to have a small coffee maker in the room and not have to go to the 10th floor once you've already gotten cozy in the comfortable bed! I really can't wait to go back there again.

“Recent Renovations Worth Waiting For”

We stayed last summer and the hotel was completing a much needed renovation. The renovations are finished and the hotel transformed. The lobby area comfortable with a sitting area with a gas fireplace. The person at reception helpful, and happy to explain that they no longer offer free espresso in the lobby but there is free coffee in the tenth floor lounge. This area had a large flat screen TV and two computers with free internet. We were shocked at our room. It had a sitting area with white leather arm chairs, white leather lounger seat and footstool, a snack bar and refrigerator, and a flat screen TV. Through a set of frosted glass doors a room with a king sized bed, flat screen TV and closet. The bathroom had modern fixtures, hand-held shower, and the deepest bath (with jets!) We called the front desk afraid there'd been a mistake. He said he gave us an upgrade to the best room available, thinking we would like it. We did. There were only a couple issues needing improvement. We couldnt get the pay-per-view to work. One of the computers wasnt operational and didnt have a sign on it that informed of this fact. Our room and bathroom spotlessly clean but when I used the jets it became obvious that they sat unused for quite a while because they shot out black flecks that looked like mold had developed in the jets. No big deal fixable by filling the tub and operating the jets on a more regular basis.
