“Great place to stay”
Beautiful guest house. Not too far to midtown New York by tube. Harlem is a lovely area. Bed was huge, we had to literally climb into it. Breakfast was excellent and the pancakes looked amazing, my Daughter said they were delicious, kept her going for up to 9 hours. Shared bathroom, though some rooms do have en suites, this was not an issue for us. Woould recommend this as a great and different place to stay
“Green room”
I made my way to this B&B around midnight, from the subway, and the streets were absolutely empty, except for some police cars - it felt a little scary. But the B&B is only 4 blocks from the subway, so I arrived within a few minutes. Everything was as beautiful as shown online, plus, the smallest room- the Green Room - was bigger than the photos led me to expect. There was also some amazing art lining all the walls. At breakfast I enjoyed hearing from the B&B owner, Dr. Stallworth, about her home's history and her work on committees to restore Alexander Hamilton's estate. A note: I was on my way back from Russia, and my international flight changed, leading me to need a different hotel night. Expedia could not do anything to help me, but my husband called Dr. Stallworth directly, and she agreed to change the night of my stay for a nominal fee.
“To Bed and Breakfast or Not and Here You Would Bed”
I very much enjoyed my stay at the Renaissance. I was well treated, exceptional breakfasts so it lived up to its name. The location was fine; easy access to the A and D express trains which took me to Times Square in about 15 minutes or less. My room was very comfortable. The neighborhood was a delight to walk thru; Alexander Hamilton's home was one block away. I recommend this place very highly.
“Former New Yorkers opinion”
We are ex New Yorkers (35 years in Brooklyn) and were visiting a dear friend to attend her husband's memorial service. She lives 2 miles north in Washington Heights. It was great to be in a real NYC neighborhood with all its significant history and row house ambiance and proximity to subways. We loved the building and the coziness and warmth of the interior. Being surrounded by all the antiques and fantastic art was very pleasing. Our two breakfasts(we missed one as we had to leave early one AM) were quite satisfactory. The woman serving was very pleasant and efficient. We were sorry to have not met Felicia.
“Average B&B, good value”
The New York Renaissance Home is a fairly non-descript townhouse on the outside. It's an older house, so the floorboards creak when you walk. It's convenient to the subway, but quite a ride from mid-town, if you're coming in late after seeing a show. Our room seemed to be a converted study, with a refrigerator and safe in a wardrobe. The shared bathroom was one flight up, and the rug on one of the steps was no longer tacked down securely, so we had to watch our step. I didn't see any towels in our room, but there was a towel in the bathroom, sufficient to wipe hands and faces. (We were only there one night, and didn't use the shower; otherwise we would have asked). The breakfast, made to order, was ample and tasty, with a pretty wide variety to choose from - eggs, muffins, yogurt, fruit, meat. The other guests we met at breakfast hailed from around the world. Jeanette was very helpful getting us on our way to see the sights - looking up subway schedules and printing out directions. We feel we got a good deal with her.
“Had a hard time to get inside of the hotel”
When I made the reservation, the hotel required us confirm our arrival time. I called several times, sent an email, and even faxed the hotel. At this point, I was worried whether or not we could check in properly. Finally, the afternoon we were planning to arrive they finally called us back. When I checked in the time I confirmed, the front door was locked, and nobody was there. I called the hotel, and nobody answered. I waited for another hour at the door, but I had an appointment that night, so I left. When I came back 2 hours later, I could finally get inside. Later that night, a very rude employee called my home who was no help at all. The staff gave us a master suite room. The room was not bad, but the radiator was very noisy, so I could not sleep well. Be careful when you check in.
