Don't judge a book by it's (beautiful) cover!

Pros: We arrived at noon on Friday and were allowed in our rooms immediately. The hotel's main floor bar staff were professional, friendly. Bed was comfy.
Cons: See above, there are no other words!
Location: Times Square, Empire State Building, Grand Central, Penn Station, even Central Park, all a simple walk.
Well folks, I was so excited to get a really good price through Expedia for The Roosevelt. It looks so grand online and it's in a perfect location. Turns out I won't return. I just got back from a vacation weekend with another couple who stayed here and felt the same way. We prepaid for a 2-night stay and checked in on Friday. All day/night Friday, the tv/internet was out and a male concierge told us it happens quite a bit. The female concierge on Saturday morning was such a snot, very uptight. The bedrooms are cramped (we had two doubles, can't imagine what the kings looked like) and really tired (no updating since the roaring 40s 50s 60s take your pick), the shower drain was clogged, toilet didn't flush right, windows were so dirty we couldn't tell if it was raining outside, the in-room iron ruined a shirt I tried to iron (stains on the ironing board cover too), in-room hairdryer didn't work on day #2, no complimentary coffee service in the bedrooms nor on the floor anywhere, and the kicker: when we returned on late Saturday afternoon our room keys wouldn't work...went down to the front desk and the woman clerk said "are you sure you're staying for 2 nights?" WHAT??? that is the worst customer service EVER. I should have heard "so sorry, we'll correct that right away, our mistake, blah blah blah." I can't make this stuff up. Bad experience.

Rooms old and shoddy!

Pros: Lobby & Rooftop Bar!
Cons: Rooms terrible!
Location: Great location - a 15 minute walk to central park.
Hotel Lobby is Excellent! But Rooms are in desperate need of update. Shower was tiny, moldy, and leaks all over bathroom floor. Water stains on walls. Internet & TV were not working. Could be a great place if the rooms matched the old style d├ęcor of the hotel lobby and grounds.

A lot of small things pile up

The hotel staff was very kind and informative! However, I shower still had residue from the guests before us, the tv turned on but would not turn off manually or with the remote. Which wasn't to bad considering the hotel did not have cable the night we stayed either for some reason. Lastly our alarm clock had an alarm set for midnight for some reason and it woke us up at midnight. Overall the room was very bland and had the bare minimum. Solid staff though.

My husband and I came from Connecticut to stay in the Roosevelt hotel to celebrate our anniversary. The hotel was very clean and beautiful. The staff was awesome. Wendy from the front desk made our anniversary, by going up and beyond to find us a special room. We loved our room and we had an amazing stay

Central location

Pros: Charming and filled with history.
Cons: Rooms could be updated to be more comfortable, such as more seating.
Location: Center of Manhattan, close to Grand Central Station, Empire State Bldg., Chrysler Bldg. Short rides to Central Park and the 911 Memorial.
We found the hotel conveniently located to the attractions we hope to visit. We walked to most sites and took short cab rides to locations further away. Our first visit to New York and had an enjoyable visit.

Convenient midtown location

Pros: Beautiful lobby. Attentive door staff.
Cons: The video system was out of order most of the time I was there. What little time I needed the TV is was unavailable.
Location: Great location not far from Time Square and the theater district.
I stayed two nights. The lobby is gorgeous and the room was ok. It was clean and the bed was very comfortable but otherwise the room was nothing special. I admit that I am not used to the pricing structure for hotels in Manhattan.

Cons: Another mirror in the room and a quieter air conditioner.
Location: Close to time square and grand central station a great advantage
As one would expect with a location in new york the rooom was small. We were out a lot of the time however when getting ready there was only sufficient room in the bathroom for one, which is fine if you are the only occupant but there were two of us. The air conditioning was a comfortable temperature however it sounded like a truck in our room consequently our sleep was affected. Great location though.

This hotel was such a let down coming off a trek America trip camp sites had better facilities then this. Our hotel we had in Newark was more up to date. One thing it had going was the central location could walk to Central Park and time square. Now what was wrong with our stay was the hotel was dated in need a make over would think they could afford it, then our air con didn't work so when we went out asked them to have a look at it but when we came back to our room in the evening found it they never looked at it. We had to ask them again then proceeded to wait 30 mins before anyone came, he looked left that was it until a phone call just saying your moving rooms come get your key so we changed rooms at 10.30 in the evening. Now this hotel doesn't have wifi not the biggest thing but it's nice to have they was charging more then a hotel we stayed in Vegas was charging which we thought was a rip off could go to Starbucks have two coffees and get wifi and it still be less then this hotel was charging.

US Open weekend

Pros: The location and how beautiful it is
Cons: Some of the staff need to be more pleasant to the patrons and each other.
Location: Shopping on Fifth Ave, Rockafeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Grand Centeal Station
We stayed at this hotel earlier this year and enjoyed it so when we got a good rate decided to stay there again. It is a beautiful hotel and our rooms have been fine. Bartenders in the bar could use some training on customer courtesy however, but most of the rest of the staff are fine. The location is good too. It is close to Fifth Ave and also Grand Central Station.

Nice , well located hotel

Booked the hotel through the expedia app on my phone as a last minute deal . The hotel was nice , big and close to all the touristy things in the city . And although it had no breakfast or internet included in my rate I still felt it was a very good price for what you get. The room was very spacious for a Manhattan hotel . Staff was very helpful and friendly .
