CONSIDERED MOMENTS, ONE GUEST AT A TIME
Nestled in Manhattan's Upper East Side, The Surrey hotel is both a familiar destination and an unexpected delight. We offer our guests authentic service, cultural inspiration and singular experiences at every visit.
Exceptional moments at The Surrey extend well beyond your accommodations. Whether you prefer entertaining in the private roof garden, indulging in a relaxing massage at the Spa or dining at your favorite table at Café Boulud, personality and personal preferences inform our service from the moment you make your reservation.
Built in 1926 as a residence hotel, the original Surrey was home to many of New York's most eccentric celebrities over the years. JFK. Bette Davis. Claudette Colbert. Famous faces who recognized the allure of exceptional, discreet service. In re-creating The Surrey, we collaborated with acclaimed interior designer Lauren Rottet and paid special attention to maintaining the integrity of this history while modernizing what has become New York's most intimate address. Rottet's inspiration was a New York City townhouse passed down through the generations, the keeper of a lifetime of memories.

Dining
CAFÉ BOULUD
Inspired by Chef Daniel Boulud’s unique twist on time-honored French cuisine prepared with fine seasonal American ingredients, Café Boulud celebrates New York’s café society with award-winning results. The restaurant’s accolades include a star in the Michelin Guide and a 3-star review in The New York Times.
The restaurant’s menu reflects Boulud’s four culinary muses: la tradition, classic French cuisine; la saison, seasonal delicacies; le potager, the vegetable garden; and le voyage, the flavors of world cuisines.
Both an exquisite fine dining destination and a neighborhood treasure, Café Boulud is not to be missed.
Entertainment
BAR PLEIADES
The perfect place to meet, entertain or simply people-watch on Madison Avenue, Bar Pleiades is the newest addition to the Café Boulud family. Named for the beloved French restaurant frequented by Manhattan’s art world elite of the 1970s and 80s, Bar Pleaides combines the elegantly attentive service of a fine hotel bar with the distinctive cocktail menu of a talented mixologist.
Bartender Cameron Bogue has earned a reputation for working with seasonal market ingredients and house-brewed accents. While classic in spirit, his signature cocktails take their direction from the renowned Café Boulud just next door.
The bar and lounge décor – inspired by both fashion icon Coco Chanel and the elegant lines of a 1930s Art Deco bar cart – features black and white lacquer finishes, French doors and quilted walls, inviting seclusion in intimate niches. Settle into a banquette and simply relax.
Perched peacefully on the 17th floor overlooking the Upper East Side and Central Park, the private rooftop garden at The Surrey is a true oasis. A tranquil, elegant setting for relaxing, a romantic evening or for business entertaining, the seasonal garden features butler service for beverages, and anything else you may require.

“Comfort, elegance and excellent service”
Location, comfort and nice people
“A lovely hotel that makes every moment fantastic”
I will of course visit again. This is the best hotel in NYC!
“Lovely, Lovely, Lovely”
Hotel is small boutique with very personal service. I have no complains as everything a perfect!! Area is nice and safe, close to the park, the MET, Subway stations and fab restaurants.
“Fantastic”
Amazing hotel, I would stay here the next time I am in New York. The service and staff were great and the hotel was wonderful.
“Beautiful hotel”
We found this hotel a lovely place to be with excellent service and friendly helpful staff. I would recommend it to anyone. The location is great, locked between Madison Ave and 5th Ave, on the upper east side,we were within walking distance to the fabulous art galleries and fabulous shopping. The famous Carlyle is just diagonally opposite- make sure you go for a drink there- earlish as it fills up with glam locals quite quickly. Just walking the streets around this area is fabulous, the shops, the people, the architecture blend into a truely exciting experience. One thing we missed was not having a kettle in the room to make a cup of tea during a sleepless jetlagged night, or after a long day on the pavements! The cost of a cup of tea bought by room service was too ridiculous to consider! The staff kindly offered to put a kettle in the room when I mentioned it.Otherwise it all great value, and a fabulous New York experience!
“Expatriate New Yorker truly enjoyed this hotel even on the upper east side”
Really a class act at this hotel. The location is great and the service without reproach. The concierge was not s deal-seeker and came up with rates far higher than they should be if one tried to arrange things personally. The whole experience was excellent, however.
“Excellent”
Stayed here many times and always very happy. If you book 2 or more days you get 25% off.
“diamond in the ruff”
what an awesome hotel! we absolutely loved it.. excellent room.. sizy, beautifully decorated, clean and charming. the staff was phenomenal. very helpful and thoughtful. they surprised my husband and me with a birthday cake as we were in NYC to celebrate our birthdays. they had a great lounge as well. the only thing i wished they offered was coffee in the morning. there was not a coffee shop nearby and the only way to get coffee was through room service. having coffee available in the lobby would have really polished off the experience. i would highly recommend this hotel!
“Best hotel in NY 5 stars”
Best hotel of the 30+ hotels I've stayed in NY. The quality is excellent. Great rooms food and amenities. Located in a quiet yet convenient neighborhood. I have stayed here 30+ nights in the last 90 days. Flawless.
“You can expect the best”
