Overrated!

Posted Feb 26, 2015
Sprung a $300 deposit on me at check in. Charge a ridiculous $75/day for parking. Sunday brunch buffet for 2 totalled $242 & it was average tasting at best. Bed was uncomfortable & some staff were pushy!

NYC Christmas gift to Grandchildren

Posted Feb 25, 2015
Two of my grandchildren, my daughter and son in law recently went to NY stayed at the Waldorf Astoria. This was my second stay at the Waldorf. We were there in April. Came back because our first visit was so outstanding. Love that you can drive right under the hotel and be dropped off met by the friendliest bellman ever. We arrived early so the hotel stored our luggage while we got right out on the streets to shop. It was very cold outside so we took a lot of taxi s .It was wonderful to be able to walk right of the front door and into a taxi. We never had to stand in the cold. The Conseirege made reservations for us to go to a great French Restaurant. When we arrived the hostess ask us if we watched Sex and the City. We of course replied yes. She said I a going to seat you at their table which was used during the filming of one of their shows . What a treat! Our rooms were perfect. Grand and old fashion. We ordered several times from room service. The service and food were beyond my expectations. Thank you Expedia for helping me set up such a fabulous trip.

Nostalgie

Posted Feb 25, 2015

Birthday Break

Posted Feb 25, 2015
A long weekend for my recent fiancée's birthday. The hotel staff were very accommodating after a 3 hour delay at JFK arrivals meant a 3.30 am check in. The room was kept spotlessly clean however our room was in need of some tlc as were some communal areas such as restrooms. However, the charm of the hotel wins you over. An excellent base for calling weekend.

Art Deco hotel with a wealth of history

Posted Feb 23, 2015
Pros: Fabulous hotel which has retained many original Art Deco features and we particularly enjoyed the hotel tour with a suberb guide Karen .
Cons: Tea and coffee facilities in the room would be a real plus point as we were on a room only deal
Location: The Waldorf Astoria is positioned very centrally on Park Avenue and all the main attractions are within walking distance.
Enjoyed my first visit to NYC and it certainly won't be my last though I would probably avoid February because it really was very very colld. Staying at the Waldorf was a real highlight of the trip and I highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to the Big Apple

Heart of Manhattan

Posted Feb 23, 2015
Pros: It has style!
Location: A few yards from Grand Central and 15 minute walk from Times Square, not much further to the Metropolitan Museum or the Empire State.
Class hotel, right in the centre of Manhattan. Excellent location, walking distance to most of the attractions. Room outstanding, cleaning services as you would expect. The public rooms all maintained to the highest standard, none of the carpets looked at all worn! The lifts are as classy as the lobby, style across all the fixtures and fittings, e.g. the lift doors are typical art deco. On arrival there was a short delay at check in, for which we were compensated with free wifi for duration of our stay, without any request from us. Concierge very helpful in arranging tours, teas and museum visits, checking timings and bookings very efficiently. Breakfasts were complete with everything anyone could want, including Gluten free bread, cold platter, full American style breakfast, omelettes to order, plus all usual Teas, coffees (including decaff) and fruit juices, smoothies etc.

Excellent!

Second time we have stayed at the WA and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were a family of four in a one-bedroomed suite which was ideal. Location perfect too, minutes walk from the nearest subway station, Chrysler building, 5th avenue, Grand Central Station etc...
