Great old midtown hotel close to the subway.

Posted May 1, 2015
Pros: Great lobby and nice room. Business center available to print boarding passes.
Cons: Don't use their wifi - too expensive and unreliable.
Location: Near Broadway and the MoMA. Walk to the subway to get anywhere including LGA but buy a Metro card when you arrive.
If you want to stay in midtown Manhattan and see museums and Broadway shows over a few days, then the Waldorf Astoria is for you. It is comfortable, quiet and the staff is very helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

I have never slept in a more comfortable bed.

Posted Apr 30, 2015
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing to recommend.
Location: Perfect location for theatre and typical tourist attractions.
I looked forward each day after my busy city activities coming back to the Waldorf and relaxing. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Dear Leslie, Your words paint such a charming picture of the Waldorf Astoria. We often hear from our guests that our 9-inch pillow top mattresses with signature Waldorf bedding are the most comfortable beds they have ever slept in, but it is great to see this sentiment reflected in your review as well! We hope for the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future, as it would be an absolute pleasure to host you again on your next trip to New York City. The Waldorf Astoria has a deserved reputation as an Iconic Hotel it is truly amazing in every sense from the Staff on the Desk when you Arrive to the Sunday Brunch in the Lobby it in itself well worth the Journey to NYC just to see the preparation and the unfolding of Brunch that only the Waldorf could achieve.

Pros: Good location to get to shops, bars, central park, museums.
Cons: The room was lovely, but was getting ready for a repaint/refurbishment.
Excellent hotel, good sized room, large bath, and shower. Comfortable large bed.

Grand public spaces, slightly tired rooms

Posted Apr 27, 2015
The Waldorf is a little tired after its heyday. But that did mean we got a fantastic deal to stay in this grand dame. The public areas are fantastic and definitely worth spending time in to get the atmosphere of such an iconic hotel. The rooms themselves were a little tired but a decent size even for the cheapest category. Note that rooms don't come with kettles as standard and when we asked for one got curtly told it would take over an hour to be delivered as these things took time in a hotel of 2000 people. Not quite the service I had expected.

Dear Steph, Thank you for your review. Indeed, our rooms are different from so many other NYC properties in that they are spacious and well-appointed. From your review it appears we did perform at a high level, but not high enough insofar as some of the elements you referenced in room condition. We continue to chase that. Please know that we expend more as a percent of revenue on soft goods and amenities than is standard for the luxury hotel set, but we recognize we need to do more and we will. I sincerely appreciate your feedback, and I hope you will consider staying with us again so we may better meet and exceed your expectations in the future. Nice but not great

Long lines for checkin. Well appointed room. They charge for things normally included such as coffee in room. The public areas are beautiful and historic. The staff is generally friendly.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to reference our public areas, historic element, and True Waldorf Service as highlights of your visit. The check-in experience clearly failed and it is difficult to recover from a bad start. The process at the front desk is designed to be relatively quick, with the provision of payment method, assignment of the room and little else normally necessary. I don't know what would have created such a lag. We will use your comments as we look for ways to impress our guests, and we hope that we have the chance to welcome you back in the future. Would definitely stay again.

Accommodation in NYC is quite expensive which is why I was presently surprised to find quite a cheap rate to stay at the Waldorf. We found the location to be reasonable, with a subway station aboit 500m walk away. At checkin we upgraded our room to a king suite for an extra $30 a night. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bed was super comfortable and probably the highlight of our stay at the Waldorf. The only cons I can see about our stay was having to pay for wifi. In this day and age wifi should be provided free of charge. Also it would be nice to have water provided in the rooms with room service each day because I was certainly wary of drinking the tap water. We found a way around this because the fitness centre on the 5th floor had plenty of free water bottles and a free cooler. It sounds cheap but it's just so easy to forget to buy water when you are out exploring the City.

Dear Ashley, Thank you for your wonderful 5-star review! Our ample-sized rooms are certainly a treat by New York standards, and we’re glad that you found them comfortable and clean. Note that I did not glance over your comment as to our Wi-Fi service. We are proud to offer complimentary Wi-Fi for our guests in our lobbies, though we have not yet figured the cost of Wi-Fi into our room rates. Perhaps that should change. We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Warm regards, David O' Keeffe Rooms Division Manager

Ideally located in Midtown Manhattan

Posted Apr 24, 2015
Pros: The opulent art deco architecture may not be to everyone's taste, but the feeling of luxury cannot be denied.
Cons: Not a feature in many US hotels but the lack of tea/coffee-making facilities in the room was an irritation, although room service could provide these.
Location: Easy access by foot to the Rockefeller Centre. Also the Museum of Modern Art, Radio City Music Hall and Broadway all within 10 minutes walk.
This hotel offers a standard of service long forgotten by many others. Our very comfortable and quiet room was a haven from the bustle of Manhattan. Advance email communications were responded to promptly and when dealing with hotel staff in person, everyone was extremely helpful and attentive, always having time to deal with any issues, no matter how small. Free WiFi was available in the lobby area but room wifi was charged at a daily rate and was not cheap. Hence, seating in the lobby was often hard fought for. Traffic in Manhattan is very congested, therefore, to avoid any panic of missing a flight, allow 2 hours for transportation to JFK, especially if traveling at peak times. The subway being close by is a bonus for journeys to Downtown.
