Soak up the history

Posted Nov 25, 2014
Pros: Very comfortable and quiet room despite being only a few floors up above busy Park Avenue.
Cons: Free wifi for all in the lobby resulting in lots of people sitting round glued to their screens, but you have to pay for wifi in your room. Not good!
Immediately upon arrival it is clear you are in an historic hotel where so many famous people have stayed and even taken up long-term residence. The fixtures and fittings throughout the hotel have remained true to its past without feeling tired or shabby, and all staff were polite and attentive. Prestigious cocktail bar Peacock Alley adjoins the main lobby and the Bull & Bear Steakhouse and bar is on the Lexington side. While it is understandable to have an evening dress code in these bars, it did leave you feeling as though you couldn't really stop by for a drink in the bar of your own hotel when returning from an afternoon's sightseeing unless you popped upstairs to get changed first, by which time, you couldn't really be bothered! No tea or coffee making facilities in the room which is always a gripe of mine, but a quick call to room service resulted in a coffee maker being brought up to the room, for which there was no charge at the end of our stay.

We chose the Waldorf because it was an extra special occasion for us - our 30th wedding anniversary! We just knew it would be an extra special place to celebrate. The facility is just gorgeous and conveniently located to the shows we wanted to see and not far from Macy's and Central Park and 5th avenue shopping. Our room was one of the ones that had a tiny little hallway to it. We just loved that! The whole hotel has such character and history. We enjoyed seeing the pictures in the lobby of the old hotel and famous visitors to the hotel. We arrived a little early and the staff found us a room before official check-in time. That was really nice since we had gotten up at 4am that morning. Everything was just beautiful and always seemed exciting every time we walked through the front door with beautiful piano music, well dressed people going to dinner, lots of people checking in, and that buffet on Sunday looked and smelled amazing! Thanks for a great 30th trip to NYC!!

Waldorf "Train Station"and mildew odor

Posted Nov 21, 2014
Very Busy hotel, we didn't spend much time there, so it did not impact our stay. We had two rooms on the 14th floor and when we got off the elevator each time we were overwhelmed with a mildew smell, a slight smell in the rooms, however I had the window open for our whole stay (2nights)so again no impact, but if I were to return I would change rooms and floors to make sure that odor was not present.

Amazing Hotel

Posted Nov 19, 2014
This trip was booked as a once in a lifetime trip, as such we decided to go for what we perceived as one of the best hotels. Sure enough the Waldorf lived up to it's exemplary reputation. The hotel location was ideal for all of the must see things in New York with bearly a 10 minute walk to all. The hotel itself was amazing and the service was of the highest standard as was the suite we stayed in, with all mod cons whilst still retaining the charm and character of that of a hotel with the vast history it has. A thoroughly enjoyable trip, made even more so by our choice of hotel. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending to anyone

We stayed her as a surprise to my mom for her 70th birthday and had a comfortable stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable, particularly for the age of the building.
