Disappointing W hotel

Posted Jan 8, 2015 on Hotels.com
The bathroom is very smelly. The room is not as good as expected, because it is even worse than Holiday Inn. But the lobby still keeps stylish as they it always does. Except that, I feel disappointed.

VERY LOUD music until 1:30 am heard in room

Posted Dec 23, 2014
Pros: Their sarcastic, non-helpful approach to a real and avoidable problem in this hotel.
Cons: Move the DJ and drummer INSIDE of the bar on the 1st and 2nd floor bar and out of the lobby where it can be heard in every single guestroom until 1:30
Location: Ground Zero is about it. Otherwise, it's tucked away in an expensive cab ride from anything you'd want to do.
Returned to room after a long day only to find the weirdest scene in the lobby. A dj and drummer were set up in front of the elevator and the weird cast of characters from what looked like a Fatboy Slim video were dancing like highly choreographed dancers who have never danced before. The cast includes a 2 year old and a guy in an electric wheelchair-spinning the controls. I retreated to my room for sleep and found the music to be obscenely loud. Called and complained. Desk clerk said there's nothing he can do because they advertise music until 1:30 am. My reply was a reasonable one: "This is unacceptable. You don't advertise music in the guest rooms until 1:30 am." His response was there's nothing he can do, this includes no room change. This music was not set up in the bar on the 1st floor (far from rooms- the reasonable choice), nor in the lounge on the 5th floor. It was in the middle of the lobby, In front of the elevators. Bad idea. Easy decision to never come back. This is insane! There are plenty of places to go if I want to stay up late. But where if I want sleep?

Nice Couples Getaway

Posted Nov 11, 2014 on Hotels.com
Stayed for one night with my boyfriend. We joined Starwood's rewards group when we checked in, so we got an automatic upgrade and had a nice room on the 21st floor. Our room had views of the 9/11 Memorial, which was beautiful night and day. The room was clean, the bed was super comfortable, and it the whole set-up was spacious (for a New York hotel). Plush robes and Bliss toiletries were nice touches. We didn't have many interactions with the staff, but the ones we had were professional and friendly. The surrounding neighborhood is pretty business-oriented (though the Memorial is next door and the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island ferry not too far away) so there's not much in terms of nightlife around. But it's close to several subway lines and easy to get to trendier neighborhoods like the LES. The hotel also has its own club, but we didn't check it out so I can't comment. I'd definitely recommend the W Downtown to anyone looking for a nice getaway!
