Pros: Overall character, comfort, hospitality and buffet breakfast.
Cons: Firmer mattresses and more wardrobe space. February in New York can be cold...verrrrrry cold!
Location: Greenwich village/Washington Square...check 'em out!
Having stayed at several NY hotels over the years, I would count the Washington Square as one of my faves. This is a downtown hotel - not midtown - so the main sites of NYC are not within close walking distance compared to something between 30th and 60th street. Worth bearing in mind for first time/short stay visitors who might want better accessibility to the main sites. However Washington Square itself is a good spot well served by local subway stations and the locality of Greenwich Village is worth exploring (including a stop off at the excellent John's Pizza on Bleeker St). The hotel itself is welcoming and full of charm and character. The price-included buffet breakfast is well worth having as a starter to the day. The rooms are not huge although bigger than others we have stayed in elsewhere. Wardrobe space is limited if you are staying for more than 3/4 days. The mattress on my single bed also showed some signs of 'sit-on' at one side but didn't produce an uncomfortable sleep. The room we occupied was clean, newly decorated and well serviced each day. Some small reservations/provisos aside, highly recommended and I would be happy to pay another visit.

A gem in the heart of Greenwich Village

Pros: Proximity to restaurants, shops, subway
Cons: Air conditioner
Friendly staff. Nice room, clean bathroom, plenty of towels, good bedding. Taxi is waiting for passengers in the morning just at the front door. Good continental breakfast (I underscore 'continental'). The only disappointing thing was the air conditioner which couldn't make the room cooler than 75F although I tried to set it to 68F.

Cute hotel in great location

Pros: Old-fashioned charm, very clean bathroom.
Cons: Availability of room service, desk in-room.
Location: NYU, Red Bamboo restaurant, shopping in Soho, Le Souk bar
This hotel is in a fantastic location especially if you have business at NYU as I did. My room was quite small but perfectly fine for one night, and spotlessly clean. Keurig machine and luxury toiletries were a nice touch.

Great location for NYU activities. Older hotel. Small rooms. But reasonably good updating.

In the Village

Pros: Clean, quiet, comfortable bed, nice decor in the lobby. Complimentary, continental breakfast. Pleasant front desk staff.
Cons: Drafty window in bathroom.
Location: Great location northwest side of Washington Square Park. Very convenient subway & to walk to the East or West Village, Soho, etc...
Stayed for two nights. Great location on Waverly Place near the northwest side of Washington Square Park. Very convenient to walk to the East or West Village, Soho, and over toward the Meatpacking District. Tons of great restaurants, right near Stumptown Coffee. Very pleasant and helpful staff. The room was small, clean and all we really needed. A bit drafty from the bathroom window, but no big deal. The heat worked well and the water pressure was great. Our room was quite, despite being right by the stairwell, but that might be a consideration at a busy time of the year. Convenient complimentary, continental breakfast including fresh fruit and pretty good coffee. Good experience.
