Not bad. The guy who used the same room was very rude but this is not the problem of the hotel. But I will never book a hotel that uses a room with a stranger anymore.

Inexpensive legit option

Posted Jun 24, 2014
Pros: Legit option
Cons: Nothing really, it's a cheap option in a very expensive market.
Location: Near La Guardia. Seems like a safe working class neighborhood surrounding the hostel and an adjacent budget motel.
I needed to book at the last minute because of a problem with a gray-market hostel booking. This place was a bit further but it was legit and I didn't have any problems.

great hostel - perfect for students

Pros: The cleanliness Its location (bus into Manhattan as well as to La Guardia Airport) The friendly vibe
Cons: The room was a little dark, could have been lighter There was no ramp for getting suitcases up into the lobby
Location: There are fantastic bus links as the hotel is within 5 blocks of both the Q19 (local to La Guardia Airport) and M60 (into Manhattan) bus routes.
For the price that I was paying for the hostel, I really wasn't expecting it to be good, it was extremely cheap! I was in New York for a festival and this was one of the nearest locations and had superb transport links into both Manhattan and Randall's Island where the festival was being held. I saw it as more of a place to crash, rather than somewhere that I would be spending a great deal of time. However, when I arrived, I was greeted by the guy on reception who was very friendly and was shown to my room. The room itself was very clean, the beds were comfortable enough to sleep on for 6 nights and the air conditioning was very welcome in the 28 degree heat! The bathroom was extensively cleaned each morning and the beds were made also. The common room/lounge area was great as there was a TV, kitchen (which was VERY well stocked with pots and pans etc.) and computers. It was a great social area that you could go in the evenings if, like myself, you were travelling alone. Any time that I went to reception, to borrow a hairdryer, ask for directions/recommendations on what to do in New York, the guy I spoke with was very helpful and friendly. Overall, I would definitely suggest that friends of mine go there in the future. However, if you are looking for somewhere where you expect to spend a lot of time, I would suggest somewhere else that has a little more luxury as this place is quite basic, though suited my needs perfectly.

Cheap but not worth it

Worst reception from the staff. Looked like something out of a horror film I thought my boyfriend and I were going to wake up with no organs. No air conditioner in summer time

Shouldn't expect anything better

Beds were clean, but the room was not, it looked like a dungeon, and bathroom was also cleaner than what I would expect, overall it was ok for a hostel. Also I met good people there.

Clean but barebones.

Pros: Not expensive. At least 2 of the front desk people were both friendly and helpful with local info such as getting places by bus.
Cons: Need at least one common bathroom.
Location: Location pretty good. An all-night Italian deli a bit more than a mile away on Northern Av. Had good rolls, pork and spinach pastries.
For the hostel (they have separate private rooms), you get a bunkbed and a clean bathroom with a strong toilet. There's a kitchen/lobby in an adjacent building where there's a microwave and stoves and refrigerators. You can get some free food as anything that doesn't have a name on it or if it's past the date on it can be taken. But there is NO bathroom next to the kitchen in that building, so get ready to run back to your room and hope nobody else is in the bathroom. The first day I shared the dorm with 3 others, 2 guys were friendly and from the Czech Republic. Next 2 days, I had the room to myself, but couldn't leave stuff for long on the empty beds since I didn't know when a new arrival could come. The Hispanic housekeepers were efficient except for most of them not speaking good English. Were stingy with toilet paper.

Ok for what it is

Room is basic and pot luck how considerate room-mates are on your stay. Front desk can be ok although a couple of stroppy guys do check-in at times. Be wary to order a taxi to LGA via them... They called their contacts who wanted double the going rate once showed up. Travelling with no valuables and in need of a basic bed with very good common room/ kitchen and wifi .. I would recommend this place on balance.
