Older hotel with decent facelift

Posted Oct 23, 2014
Pros: Very well located.
Cons: Cold use some modernization but not totally necessary.
Location: Everything was within a 10 minute walk, Times Square, Broadway, Museums, Central Park. All primary subway systems were within three blocks.
All in all, I would stay here again. Clean, well located, reasonably priced. Very easy to get around NYC from the New Yorker.

Nice hotel in ideal location.

Posted Oct 21, 2014
Pros: Ambiance and the location
Location: 1 min from Penn Station subway providing easy access to all points in New York. Walking distance to Broadway and the theatres - a must whilst in NY
We spent 10 days at the hotel. First timers to New York and the location was ideal from which to discover the city. Close to the Penn St. subway and easy walking distance to Times Square and all the theatres. Room was small as expected , being NY, but bed was excellent, sheets and room very clean and bathroom facilities very good. Fine Hudson River and city views obtained for little extra charge. Security good and staff very friendly and helpful without being overbearing.

If Art Deco is your thing , , , ,

Posted Oct 21, 2014
Pros: The location was central to the various things that we wanted to do and with Penn station being so near also made for easy access to the Sub Way.
Cons: Attention to painted woodwork and tiling and damaged bath.
Location: .We walked most places although we used the Sub Way at Penn Station to get to South Ferry and the Brooklyn Bridge.Yes so very centrally located.
If Art Deco is your thing then you ought to like the Wyndham New Yorker. However if you enjoy some space in your bedroom then maybe not.Movement was made more difficult by one large chair in what was already a very restricted area. Two smaller chairs would have been preferential but then space may not have permitted. The Queen bed was very comfortable and the sleeping experience was very good. The bathroom again had Art Deco features but has suffered through the years with paint work and tiling chipped whilst the surface of the bath around the plughole was damaged.Water pressure was strong and provided a good shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful which made for a very good holiday overall.

Great spot to stay in Manhattan

Posted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: Location, art deco design, inviting lobby, very friendly helpful staff, clean
Location: Fantastic location in mid-town Manhattan; within walking distance to attractions, shopping, theatre, dining, transportation.
We really enjoyed staying at this hotel during our 5 day stay in Manhattan. It offered a pleasant, centrally located home base while we explored the city. Hotel staff were always very friendly and helpful. The lobby, elevators and our room were always very clean. There was a diner with great food, large portions and reasonable prices attached to one side of the hotel and a more upscale restaurant and bar attached to the other side. The subway, Penn station and Port Authority were steps away from the hotel. Reasonably priced transportation to major NYC airports was also located about a block away. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Nice hotel, in heart of midtown.

Posted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: Central location
Cons: Attention to detail in cleaning.
Location: Within walking distance of Empire State, Times Square major shopping and Broadway theaters.
Hotel's period features are lovely. Rooms were comfortable, some slight cleaning issues but not enough to spoil the trip. Good location in heart of Midtown opposite Madison Square Garden. Would stay there again.

Nice spot, great location! Typical old New York!

Posted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: Friendly service, and great for getting us a cab at a great rate - even to New Jersey!
Cons: It is looking its age! Needs some renovations. But it is old school NYC. It added character.
Location: Best Pizza slice, and I eat a lot of Pizza when in NYC - Pizza Suprema, 413 Eighth Ave., midtown west. And very close to Madison Square Garden.
Great location to go to the Javits Center for a conference. Great location and friendly neighborhood. Best thing it was located one block away from the best pizza slice in NYC - Pizza Suprema, 413 Eighth Ave., midtown west. For this reason the New Yorker hotel was great!

Ruined our trip to NY

Posted Oct 20, 2014
We booked a room well in advance for a holiday for our family of 4 in NY. The room was so small there was not even enough space to open the suitcase. The bathroom had paint flaking from the walls, the bath was chipped, the floor was unsealed. The common areas were a mess, and rubbish left on the floor the first day was still there when we left. I asked to be moved, but the staff were not interested. They said they would get back to me, but no one was particularly interested. My learning from this is when a hotel is booked via Expedia with a Flight, you get some discount . This then puts you at the bottom of the pile when it comes to room allocation. I would stay clear of this hotel.
