Port in a storm

Posted Jun 20, 2015
Pros: Clean, free wifi, all mechanicals etc worked well.
Cons: There is a musty smell.
Location: Close to the zoo.
I stayed here after mistakenly booking my intended hotel for one night instead of two. All of the other hotels I tried were sold out; there was one room left here. Aside from a musty smell and some minor physical issues (flaking paint) I cannot complain. The desk manager was helpful, room was clean, TV worked, wifi worked, air conditioner worked (and even had a remote), water was hot. The rate included breakfast which I did not try as I was going to a meeting where that was served. The overall impression is somewhat rundown but perfectly adequate and were it not for the somewhat musty mildews smell I would rate higher.

Don't

It shows in Expedia that it is 7 miles from the airport. Guess what? It is about 30-45 min drive and $50 cab ride. The hotel is pretty much run down, old, and dirty. The air condition does not work.

The hotel is in bad need of updating. I just didn't feel it was very clean. Also, the breakfast choices were poor.

Pros: Nice clean rooms....you don't feel like you're in a NYC closet. Breakfast...always nice, and restocked often...and FREE!!!! Front desk staff helpful.
Cons: Little thing...no soap dish holder in the shower! If that's the "worst" thing I could find, you can tell that we were quite satisfied!
Location: Turtleback Zoo, the Lake, Boating, picnic & parks....nice touches. From a McDonalds to a great Steak House, to an Italian spot next door.
Excellent location (obviously). Wonderful Family facilities within walking distance, good choice of restaurants in the immediate area, as well as its proximity to Millburn. A Great Value for the Dollar. Most Hotels in the Millburn, Short Hills, Summit area, have no Shame, pricewise.

Walking distance to Turtle Back Zoo

Posted Apr 22, 2015
Location: Turtle Back Zoo
PRO: - right across the street from the Turtle Back. No need to drive -just walk across the street - the front desk clerk in the morning was very pleasant. She gave me directions for moving our car to the back of the building so we would have to take our luggage out through the mud (see below) CONS: -when I checked in the front desk clerk was sitting, stayed seated, never looked at me and he practically threw my license across the counter to me -the" free breakfast" was nothing more than cold cereal, waffles, and bagels (so we went to the Livingston Diner for a healthier meal) -when we returned to the hotel, plywood panels were blocking the entrance to the lobby, while worker bees were jack-hammering (or something) the concrete right in front of the entrance. To get into the hotel, we had to walk across a muddy patch and in through a side door. Oddly enough when we stayed here 4 years ago, work was being on the concrete slab in front of the entrance...

Dear Chefcat , When we are open 24/7 365 , there is never a good time to make improvements, sorry for the inconvenience. As far as breakfast sorry you did not like our offerings. But you left out quite a few items.I hope you enjoyed the 37" HDTV , keurig coffee maker and the complimentary bottles of water in your room.
