On arrival at the hotel, it looked pleasant and welcoming. Checked in at hotel and asked if there was two people staying which i said yes. She then said oh, i will need to find a double room then. This took about 3-4mins and eventually got allocated a room which was the disabled room. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. Even to sit on it sank and did not get a good night sleep. Decided to have dinner in the restaurant which has a lovely feel and great wine menu, shame about the service. Ordered food and when asked if the chicken came with veg i was told some. The some veg turned out to be a grilled tomatoes flat mushroom. No sauce with the chicken and a heap of potato wedges. Overall disappointed, but could potentially be a lovely hotel with a high standard.

stayed there previously when able to sit in conservatory and watch the wildlife outside. This has now been made into a very narrow restaurant and is not very comfortable .The food was over priced and very average for the price. We ate out on the second night.Ludo the maitre de was at least pleasant on this visit whilst in the past he has been condescending and quite rude. The changes made have ,in our opinion ,made the hotel less appealing.

Needed to find a pleasant hotel for one night in the Newbury area - booking very easy and they were very helpful about an early arrival. Plenty of space in car park, adjacent to individual room with outdoor key. Facilities very clean, kettle for tea, good wardrobe space, comfortable bed. Excellent full English breakfast included in price - a very agreeable stay.

using the local horse racing industry as a theme for each room, and the addition of horse-based accessories was a great idea. It made another night away from home into a quirky and original stop over ... well done!
