“The only bad thing!”

"The only bad thing that I can find to say about the hotel was the vase of plastic flowers in the bedroom and plastic flowers on the dining table! Apart from this I was more than happy with the hotel and would love to go back! A memorable experience!

“Wonderful Weekend”

Booked the Slieve Donard for a special birthday weekend for my wife, and it was an excellent choice. I had requested a sea-view room on my booking form and this was obliged with the lovely hexagonal shaped room 424, with outstanding views of the wintery sea and the mountains. I must also thank staff for placing the bouquet of flowers I had got delivered, up in the room. As others have mentioned the room facilities were excellent as were our breakfasts in the Oak dining room. An extra benefit when staying at the Slieve Donard is guest use of the superb Spa facilities, it is simply a must and a great way to chill out and relax when winter storms are battering coast less than 400 yards away. (I would also note that after checking out on the Sunday morning guests can still avail of the Spa facilities up to 3pm, which we duly did.) Next to the Spa is the hotels relaxing Lighthouse Restaurant were we enjoyed a tasty meal and several snacks which tended to be on the healthier side of things, although they do serve a High Tea there also :) Overall we had a wonderful stay and will definitely be organising a return visit.

Really enjoyed our stay at The Slieve Donard Hotel.My wife and i have stayed in the hotei before on several occasions and we have never been disappointed,however if there was one aspect of the stay let us down it was this.We went for a meal at percy french,s,which was very enjoyable,however as we were eating outside in very pleasent surroundings,a group of teenagers arrived and proceeded to open their alcohol(which was not bought on the premises)and have a party.My wife and thought this was quite strange as they were on the premises and nobody seemed to mind.All in all,the hotel and it,s surroundings were very relaxing and we will visit again in the future.

“County Down's Best Hotel”

We recently spent 5 nights at the Slieve Donard situated at the base of the Mourne Mountains overlooking the Irish Sea in the town of NewCastle, County Down, Northern Ireland. The decor, service and food were all first class for a European hotel! This hotel has a beautiful golf course, an award winning restaurant and the view is spectacular. Since it is situated right in the town of Newcastle, we didn't need a car - restaurants and shops were very close to the hotel. Although we came to this part of Ireland to attend a family wedding, we would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the north.

Fantastic stay

“lovely hotel, lovely location”

Situated in a perfect location in Newcastle right on the beach, the town centre is literally just outside the hotel grounds. Great view of sea and the Mourne Mountains (when not covered by fog!!). Lovely hotel with great service. Great relaxing environment to go back to following exploration of surrounding area. The spa is fabulous indulgence although try and arrive at least a half hour-45 minutes before your appointment to make full use of services (my only minor complaint that this wasn't made very clear when making the appointment). Alternatively the complimentary 'mini-spa', pool and gym are great. Would definately return in the future.

“Fantastic hotel, beautiful location.”

The hotel was amazing, from my husband and I first entered until we left we were in awe with how great it was!! We were there for our first wedding anniversary as this is were we met a few years back and we could not of had a better time anywhere else. We ate at Percy Frenchs' restaurant on the grounds of the hotel and both the food and service was excellant!!! We recommend this hotel as the best place in Newcastle!!

“Newcastle N Ireland by the Mountains of Mourne.”

We were at a wedding reception at the hotel and stayed overnight. Hotel clean and cheerful, staff made us feel welcome. Staff and service at wedding reception was fast, efficient and pleasant. Room was large, clean and had a magnificent view over newcastle and the mourne mountains. I thought we had only booked for continental breakfast, but reception informed me that all rooms come with full breakfast.

“Good but not great”

Spa is simply wonderful however the hotel was showing its age
