Close enough to explore the city and beyond

Posted Feb 23, 2015
Pros: Modern, clean and uncluttered. Most importantly, warm comfortable beds.
Cons: Shame about the splashes of paint on the new curtains-only minor things though.
Location: 15 mins drive into city with art galleries galore to visit. Would recommend The Biscuit Factory followed by brunch at Blakes and more art shops nearby
Was a little dubious after a five hour drive to the frozen north. On arrival was met by friendly and helpful reception. On to our room to discover a newly refurbished and warm room. Plenty of space for my daughter and myself. Would easily accommodate a small family. Gym/swimming pool available which we used. Didn't have enough time to sample the spa experience so can't comment on that. Took breakfast one morning and really enjoyed the calm atmosphere-families with young children seated away from parties of just adults which I must say, I appreciated. Been there/done that! A little more expensive than I thought but hey, we enjoyed it. Would definitely use this hotel again-please keep it as it is, along with the excellent service.

What great feedback - thank you. We are continuing to refurbish our bedrooms to improve the standards and guest comfort (like the bedroom you had). It will be ongoing for a while, but well worth it. Our "excellent service" is always a focus and we appreciate you recognising it - thank you & please make that 5 hour trip again (smiley face)

Loads of space in the room with plenty of parking

Posted Jan 26, 2015
Pros: Parking was free and plenty. The room was quite spacious even with two double beds and a family with two toddlers.
Cons: Cleanliness of the room. It appeared that the room hadn't been vacuumed before we entered it.
Location: It's in the middle of no where but the larger room even with two double beds more than compensated.
On whole it was OK. Wish our room had been vacuumed before we took it - plenty of hair about. The shower hose was leaking water everywhere. Otherwise, the staff was quite pleasant with plenty of space in the room.

Average hotel, dreadful food, nice staff

Posted Jan 16, 2015 on Hotels.com
Staying with a female colleague, we were greeted by reception and told that I (a male) was invited to drink and eat with the management sales team, but my colleague was not. Whilst odd, we ignored this and moved on. The rooms were fine, but not great. The food was dreadful and we sent back not only their first offering but also the replacement. Between us, this was the third meal in forty years either of us have ever refused. The only saving grace for the entire hotel is the friendly and pleasant staff who genuinely try to help.

Don't bother, go to the Marriot!

Posted Dec 23, 2014 on Hotels.com
Went first to the Marriot at Gosforth Park by accident. Apparently, the Holiday Inn has copied/added the name Gosforth to try and attract more clients. However, upon arrival at the Holiday Inn there is no mention of Gosforth Park so it meant parking up and going to reception to check this was the right hotel. With the previous Marriot experience + this resulted in an extra 20 mins of wasted time. Rooms were basic with convector heaters which meant either freezing or very dry/hot. Clearly hotel under going a renovation but the walls were stripped, paint everywhere, fumes etc. Unfortunately rude receptionists on check in and very slow. All you want is a smile and a welcome - is that too much to ask after driving 7hrs!

Please accept our appologies that you were not made to feel welcomed when you arrived at the hotel - it certainly wasn't the intention. Our name change is due to the rre being another Holiday Inn and the local name after "Newcastle" has to be recogniseable .

Did What was Needed.

Posted Dec 18, 2014 on Hotels.com
This was a lightning stay, arriving late on a Sunday afternoon and departing early on Monday morning. It was also all done by public transport and that made it interesting, especially as most of the bus stops appeared to be out of service. Once arrived - chilled, tired and a little frustrated - the place itself was very welcoming. The room was large and warm and comfortable. Venturing out to find something to eat was never going to be an activity to delight the senses and enrich the soul and ending up at the nearby Burger King left me wishing I had Ray Mears' survival skills to trap and cook a bit of local wildlife instead. If you're going to this hotel, take a tip and drive.
