Not a 4 star hotelPosted Oct 23, 2013
Pros: The entrance and bar areas where certainly of a much higher finish.
Cons: Bedroom decor and TV
Wallpaper peeling away from the bedroom walls. TV was something out of the early 1980's. On the Expedia website it stated dressing gowns in the room and a DVD player, neither were present. Lots of noise from the central railway station.

City centre NewcastlePosted Oct 22, 2013
Pros: The location, the staff and the public spaces.
Cons: The bedrooms are a bit dated - but we understand that they are in the process of renovation. Can't wait to go back & see what they'll do with them.
Location: Absolutely perfect location right by the quayside. Short walk to the town centre which offers fabulous shopping. Walking by the river is a real treat.
Lovely hotel, we were there for a friends wedding.

Good Points: Close to city centre and quayside.Posted Oct 20, 2013
Pros: The position within Newcastle City Very central and good communications , train, bus etc.
Cons: Staff to resist blaming every failed point on the refurbishment programme.
Location: met all the points mentioned in the brochure on Newcastle . Would visit the city again
Other points not so good: The room was dismal, gloomy, very little natural light. Disturbed by noise of railway trains all night Room temperature excessively high. Good points: restaurant staff well trained, presentable and considerate. Food. Very good , Might have recommended future use of this hotel if the current refurbishment programme had been completed.

Nice room shame about the viewPosted Sep 2, 2013 on Hotels.com
Stayed at the Vermont 29 and 30th August. Very good all round although our room overlooked Newcastle Castle Keep and the area around this was quite scruffy.

Lovely staff very helpful and keen.Posted Aug 24, 2013
The hotel is in a lovely position right next to the castle keep and a short walk to the train station. I had read previous reviews so I knew that they were in the process of renovating the rooms but the room although possibly a little dated (especially the TV!) was clean and comfortable and as the staff were so wonderful especially the receptionist who checked me and my daughter in I can forgive that and I look forward to staying with them again.

A brief visit to the Vermont!Posted Aug 14, 2013
Pros: The Redwood Bar although expensive.
Cons: Needing a fan to keep cool and the lifts.
Location: The hotel is central to many interesting places, the Cathedral, Castle Garth, the 'Bridges' and many restaurants and pubs.
The hotel rooms are "tired" and need major improvement, not necessarily modernising which could spoil the character of the hotel, but with better showers, climate control/aircon. Restaurant staff need training on clearing tables and not waste journeys when walking round the dining room.
