Charming B&B in Newport

Posted Oct 29, 2014
Pros: Period furnishings, comfortable bed, helpful staff, free parking.
Cons: Some variety in the breakfast menu would be welcome.
Location: Walk down any of the streets that intersect Bellevue to see period homes.
The Inns on Bellevue are actually four separate 19th century houses converted to B&Bs, three of which are in the same block, across the street from the Viking Hotel. Rooms are furnished with antique or at least period style furniture. Only caveats would be those to be expected in any similar establishment: little space, no elevators, steep narrow staircases. Pluses include free parking, comfortable bedding, and an extremely helpful and gracious staff. Local temperature control and working sash windows made the room comfortable and airy. Breakfast buffet is the same every day, and is included in the price. Lunch may be had at a deli next door. Short walk to Thames Street shops and the waterfront.

If you like the B&B atmosphere, then this may be..

Pros: It is a quaint place with some historic features that are very nice. Good location and parking is included.
Cons: Comments above give you some ideas.
the place for you. I was in town for a class and it required a lot of reading and studying for a class. Unfortunately, the overhead light in my room didn't work. I was able to rig up one of the bedside lamps onto a mantle and loosen the shade to make it work. Couldn't lean back on the bed because it was up against an old fireplace with said mantle at just the height where you head would want to go. Several odd/rigged things like this came up during my stay. If it was a vacationing/sightseeing weekend these things wouldn't have bothered me as much, if at all. But, as this was a business/education trip, these things became a nuisance.

The noise of the people coming in and out all night long was a little too much
