Nice hotel!

Very nice and comfortable hotel (the beds are awesome) close to downtown Newport! You will need an uber or cab to get to the wharf, but the location was great for our mini location!

Pros: The layout was simple and uncomplicated. Very basic accommodations with clean room. The hotel restaurant food was the best we have experienced.
Cons: Firmer mattress.
Location: Visiting the mansions was our primary goal and the hotel is perfectly located for this purpose.
Very comfortable accommodations. The restaurant served excellent food with lots of variety. The staff was friendly and always available. Maid service was good. The location of the hotel was perfect for our sightseeing plans.

Naps graduation

I suggest the hotel should offer breakfast vouchers for the restaurant on site or even continental for more than 1 night stays...not real accessible to the parking lots...but good stay. Thanks

One night stay

Posted May 17, 2015
Pros: It was available, location, clean and we had stayed there before.
Cons: The hotel is a little dated, which is most notable in the hall ways, which have a moldy smell and appearance. The room prices were inflated.
Location: It is located in Newport, RI, which is self explanatory.
Booked hotel for one night to attend the Volvo regatta event in Newport, RI.

Budget hotel in a seedy neighborhood

Posted May 7, 2015
Pros: Free parking and Wi-Fi
Cons: The entire place needs to be cleaned and rennovated. It's a mess. Except for the lobby, it felt and looked like a flop house.
Location: The hotel is 2+ miles from the center of Newport's main area and attractions. Even with our bicycles, it took 12-15 minutes to get anywhere in town.
The Mainstay Hotel is in dire need of upgrading and improvements - both inside and outside. The room we were assigned (208) was in the middle of what appeared to be "long-term stay" for noisy people who came and went at all hours of the night. The walls were paper thin, the hall carpeting was faded and stained and often strewn with paper bags of garbage or old food trays, the crack in the window of our room was clumsily held together with duct tape, the curtains were dirty, the bathroom walls and ceiling were dotted with black spots, neither key card worked for room entry, and often required that we walk the labyrinth of hallways to the lobby for re-programming, and the staff was indifferent and reluctantly helpful. (Even if there was no queue waiting for assistance, the front desk personnel always appeared dismissive and minimally interested in their guests.) We have booked many trips with Expedia, and they don't usually disappoint. But it was obvious that no one from your company has recently researched this hotel. If so, you wouldn't advertise it on your site.

hotel not like pictures

Posted May 1, 2015
Seemed that hotel cared more for wedding guests and convention guests more than families. They were nothing like the pictures on website. The beds had very thin blankets, rooms were cold and very plain decor old and the halls smelled. TERRIBLE.

Location: Really close to tourist information center and the waterfront where the trolley tours are scheduled.
Really convenient to center of Newport but my room was awkward in the basement with a smallish window. Just not what I expected. Maid service was attentive. Excellent price for my needs. Wi-Fi service was also awesome.
